In partnership with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Cupcake Digital has created an interactive storybook app, based on the NFPA’s beloved mascot, Sparky the Fire Dog®. This completely original story has a clear purpose: to empower kids to bring awareness and planning to their household when it comes to fire safety. By providing essential safety tips through storytelling, Cupcake Digital appeals to children and motivates them to be informed and share that knowledge with their families. The characters in the story make the message fun and useful without being overwhelming. Embedded in this playful tale are conversation starters about fire safety that every household should consider.
The free app is available year-round and makes an especially good educational tool for Fire Prevention Week, October 6-12, 2013. In Sparky’s Birthday Surprise, Sparky the Fire Dog® and friends learn key fire safety skills while preparing for a surprise birthday party. Throughout the app, children learn lessons, such as what to do if they hear a smoke alarm sound, how to recognize things that are hot and could burn them, and how to assign a meeting place outside their home to gather at in case of fire.
The app, created by Cupcake Digital in collaboration with MDR@School, a division of MDR, a Dun & Bradstreet Company, is currently available in English and Spanish on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and Barnes & Noble NOOK App Store, as well as on sparkyschoolhouse.org and sparky.org.
“We are excited about creating apps with a purpose that distinctly benefits children in a variety of ways,” says Brad Powers CEO, Cupcake Digital. “We are currently exploring other opportunities to partner with non-profits that work to help children.”
