The Associate Director for the New York City Department of Corrections (the "DOC") Partnerships will work with the Faculty Director in planning and will lead the implementation of a two part partnership between John Jay College and the New York City DOC to create a career pipeline from the City University of New York to the leadership ranks of the New York City DOC: the Correction Cadet Corps and the Captain Training Program. The DOC Cadet Corps will provide a pipeline of student cadets with strong educational and practical backgrounds in critical issues facing the field of corrections. Utilizing the CUNY Justice Academy, a dual enrollment program for students at six CUNY community colleges and John Jay College, this partnership will reach across New York City’s five boroughs. The Captain Training Program will give a competitive group of Correctional Officers an intensive educational experience aimed at increasing the numbers of Correctional Officers who qualify for promotion based on the Captain’s Exam and providing them with the skills necessary to be effective front-line managers.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Student Academic Success Programs (SASP), and collaborating with both community college and John Jay College partner offices, the Associate Director for DOC Partnerships is responsible for the implementation, support and assessment of programming that impacts the recruitment, retention and success of Correction Cadet Corps and Captain Training Program participants. In addition to the responsibilities listed in the CUNY Title Overview, the successful candidate will perform the following duties:

* Act as a liaison between the DOC and John Jay College;

* Collaborate with DOC staff and Faculty Director in designing, recruiting and selecting Correction Cadet Corps participants;

* Organize, implement and track the academic component of both Correction Cadet Corps and the Captain Training programs, following the recommendations of the Faculty Director;

* Work with John Jay faculty, administration and staff to develop comprehensive success programming and cohort support for Correction Cadet Corps and Captain Training Program participants;

* Develop academic plans and advisement materials;

* Develop and coordinate print and digital communication and promotion plans;

* Monitor expenditures and budget;

* Develop and implement program assessment, and prepare regular reports; and

* Supervise all other program staff.

We are looking for a leader with a background in, education, experiential program design and program administration, who will also bring to the position a passion for social justice and public service.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be a team player with a demonstrated ability in program design and implementation and extensive experience working with urban college students. The ability to communicate clearly to students, faculty, administrators and staff orally and in writing is a must.

Strong preference will be given to candidates with:

* Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a related field;

* Familiarity with the correction theories and practices;

* Knowledge of and experience with urban jail operations;

* Project management experience; and

* Excellent communications and organization skills.
