POSITION DETAILS
The Vice President is responsible for one or more major College divisions and serves as a member of the President's Cabinet. He/she incorporates innovative practices into plans and strategies and collaborates with other College and University executives, and outside organizations as needed, to develop appropriate policy and acquire resources. He/she is a dynamic leader of an executive team responsible for personnel, budget, operations, and communications.
The Vice President for Continuing Education and Workforce Development provides leadership for the School of Continuing and Professional Studies which includes the Small Business Development Center, Office of Continuing Education, Office of Adult Degree Program, and CUNY on the Concourse, an off-campus facility which houses the Bronx Business Bridge, a start-up incubator and an iTech innovation lab. The School offers Individualized Studies programs for adult and professional learners, non-credit courses, professional certificate, ESL, personal enrichment classes, and a Children and Teens Academy. The Vice President is a member of the College's senior leadership and works closely with College and University senior management to develop and implement the vision, plan and strategies for workforce, economic development and continuing education programs.
The Vice President will:
* Provide strategic and innovative leadership in the design, implementation and continuous improvement in the areas of responsibility and the development of marketing strategies and community outreach that lead to growth, programmatic recognition and the achievement of strategic and operational goals.
* Lead new initiatives to broaden the influence of the College and its distinctive model of collaborative workforce education that includes individualized study and student-centered degree programs, assessment of prior learning, and non-traditional schedules delivered in classrooms and online.
* Create and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of businesses, health organizations, chambers of commerce, labor unions, education institutions, not-for-profit organizations, and government agencies, and with other internal and external constituents to promote the connection between education and career pathways and to develop programs that respond to their current and emerging workforce needs.
* Oversee the development, implementation, and management of the College's sponsored credit and non-credit educational and workforce programs through contractual agreements with funders such as employers, labor unions, governmental agencies, and other entities.
* Work with the College's academic deans and departments to create a meaningful articulation between certificate and degree programs.
* Identify and assess best practices regionally to ensure quality workforce and continuing education programs that maintain a competitive advantage for the School.
* Seek grant and contract opportunities to advance strategic and operational initiatives.
* Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations, accrediting commissions, licensing and certification requirements and administrative regulations in line with CUNY Board of Trustees policies, as appropriate.
* Develop, implement and assess School goals, policies and procedures to ensure alignment with the College's strategic plan.
* Collaborate with College officials and senior managers on the development of a coordinated marketing strategy to ensure the effectiveness of outreach/recruitment, instructional and marketing goals.
* Serve as the College liaison to the CUNY Central office, industry, labor unions, government and community-based agencies for workforce education and economic development programs and initiatives.
* Perform other related duties as assigned by the President.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial, creative educator and strategic thinker with exceptional leadership, communication and business development skills who will also demonstrate a highly developed understanding of economic and workforce development trends coupled with progressively responsible experience at a senior level in workforce development and training and/or continuing education. She/he will possess strong strategic planning and budget/financial management experience; demonstrated record of securing grants and contracts; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds and business/industry and community leaders to advance College and School goals. A student-centered focus is a must.
