Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty three colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education.
Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community, currently enrolling 7,000 students in degree programs. Students represent 105 countries around the world! MEC students obtain Associate degrees in 8 fields, and Baccalaureate degrees in 18 fields. They are instructed by over 208 Full-time dedicated faculty members who must maintain a portfolio of scholarship and research. To meet the needs of its students, the College offers courses and programs at various times, is growing their online program offerings, and in offsite locations. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research.
The Library Coordinator will:
* Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient customer service to patrons and refers inquiries to other Library staff as appropriate.
* Assist with the Library's opening and closing procedures when needed.
* Assist Library patrons with Circulation and Reserve requests, and use of the Library's online catalog.
* Assist patrons in locating books and other materials.
* Assist with Course Reserve planning including course reserve requests, print reserve processing, electronic reserve scanning, uploading and course page management
* Maintain Library's physical environment and Monitors study area
* Help in coordinating the efficient flow of all reserve materials.
* Maintain the ALEPH 500 on-line library catalog
* Perform basic Circulation and Information Literacy activities; supervises Work Study Students with Collection Maintenance (Shelving and shelf reading) coordinates evening and weekend scheduling.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Two years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Knowledge of the organization, principles, and philosophy of an academic Library.
* Experience in circulation and reserve services and procedures.
* Experience in customer service, demonstrated skills in communicating with students, faculty and staff in a diverse work environment.
* Ability to work independently, plan, organize, prioritize and complete projects by target dates.
* Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, Student Information Systems (SIMS) and internet
* User knowledge in ExLibris (Aleph 500 a plus)
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Assists with Library operations and provides excellent service to Library users.
* Coordinates with faculty, students, and librarians to ensure needed materials are accessible on a timely basis
* Provides general information in the use of library resources and services
* Keeps records of library transactions and generates reports on usage
* Exercises sound judgment in enforcing library policies and procedures
* May perform and/or supervise daily operations of a service unit such as the Reserve Desk
* May assist with digital resource management, acquisitions, and updating Library web pages
* Performs related duties as assigned.
