FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Psychology at the College of Staten Island (CSI) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2016. Applicants interested in basic research in Biological Psychology will be considered.

Our Psychology Department embodies CSI's commitment to educational excellence through scholarship, teaching, and service. We provide our students with a comprehensive understanding of the scientific study of behavior and experience through our broad curriculum. We foster critical thinking through a variety of research laboratories, which support undergraduate and graduate opportunities. Basic research is supported by a modern comparative psychology facility (small rodent and avian vivarium). Our active participation in the Master of Science in Neuroscience and Developmental Disabilities (MS) at the College and many Ph.D. programs at the CUNY Graduate Center in Manhattan provides our students with continued access to excellence.

The College of Staten Island (CSI) is a City University of New York (CUNY) senior College organized around two academic divisions and three schools, with over 14,000 students. CSI offers a broad range of academic programs in the liberal arts and sciences, and in several professional areas. The College awards associate's, bachelor's, master's and clinical doctoral degrees, and in collaboration with The CUNY Graduate Center, numerous Ph.D. degrees. CSI's internationally recognized faculty passionately engage in scholarly and artistic activities, and together with a strong professional staff, lead students through transformational learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. The College is situated on a 204-acre site, has recently incorporated a residential component, and is currently engaging in capital expansion. It is a hub of intellectual and artistic activity and a community partner and source of economic impact and job creation for the greater Staten Island area.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D. degree in Psychology or a closely related field is required at time of appointment. A successful candidate should have an active research program in biological psychology or a related field, and have expertise in teaching psychology and behavioral neuroscience. Applicants that utilize a natural science approach to study brain and behavior are preferred. Those with research interests in developmental mechanisms and comorbidities are encouraged to apply. Applicants should be prepared to teach courses such as Drugs & Behavior, Physiological Psychology (cognitive behavioral neuroscience, motivated behavior), and Biological Origins of Behavior amongst other Research Methods and Experimental Psychology courses to our diverse undergraduate student body.
