POSITION DETAILS

Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Pre-College Programs in the Division of Adult and Continuing Education, the Manager for the Program for Deaf Adults manages all program areas within the Program for Deaf Adults (Educational and Academic Support Services for credit and non-credit students and the American Sign Language (ASL)-English Interpretation Program).

* Evaluate and assess program effectiveness and ensure provision of appropriate services for deaf and hard of hearing students.

* Supervises and monitors all fiscal aspects of the program to ensure appropriate and cost effective use of funding resources.

* Seeks and writes proposals for federal, state, and private funding to support program services as needed.

* Supervises program staff, seeking to ensure that they fulfill their work responsibilities appropriately and effectively.

* Works with staff in government and other appropriate agencies that provide support services for deaf students to ensure provision of that support.

* Initiates searches and recruits new staff with appropriate skills as needed.

* Communicates fluently in ASL and English with deaf and hearing college staff and students.

* Serves as a member of Divisional, College and University committees as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience and involvement within the deaf community

* Considerable experience in administration and supervision of professional staff

* Training and experience in deaf education, deaf studies, ASL, or related fields

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

* Excellent organizational, administrative and budgeting skills

* Develops, recommends, and implements program goals and objectives to meet students' specialized needs; coordinates delivery of services across multiple functions, developing new programs and activities as needed

* Advocates for students, and partners with academic and student support functions to ensure students effectively utilize programs and services; collaborates with counselors, mentors, and others assisting students

* Maintains ongoing communications with targeted student population as well as department management, advisory groups, and external organizations

* Collects data for, analyzes, and reports on activities and outcomes

* Performs related duties as assigned.
