GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Assistants perform entry-level professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Assistants work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar based on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving minor technology problems, monitoring activities, and maintaining documentation. They have latitude for independent initiative and judgment, under supervision.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting to the IT Senior Associate in the Instructional Services and Media Distribution Department, Division of Information Technology, the IT Assistant will perform, but not limited to, the following duties:

* Support the Blackboard learning management system administration and its operation.

* Monitor system performance, course utilization and user enrollment.

* Assist the Site Licensing Coordinator to handle college-wide software licensing, research and evaluation of new technologies or software packages for instructional purposes, by obtaining quotes from vendors and keep track of related maintenance agreements, develop and refine best practices and procedures.

* Serve as the liaison and escalation contact between local campus and the CUNY CIS team.

* Participates in the planning, testing and implementation of new Blackboard releases, service packs, building blocks and device problem resolution.

* Assist with and enforce system policies and procedures following CUNY guidelines.

* Assist with the creation of Blackboard organization and user batch enrollment.

* Assist faculty in course development and advanced content management.

* Provide Blackboard technical support for faculty and students by phone, e-mail or in-person.

* Maintain high level of customer satisfaction by providing on-time and accurate responses.

* Provide log-in issues and support for various college-wide applications including, but not limited to: CUNYFirst, CUNY Portal, CUNY Virtual Desktop, Web Attendance, My LaGuardia, Office 365

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

2. A minimum of six months of full-time experience in a computer or technology-related position. Experience that is more than 20 hours per week and less than 35 hours per week may be counted at 50% of the requirement (i.e., two months of part time experience equal to one month full time experience)

3. Additional experience and/or education that can be met by ONE of the following: An additional three years and six months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; an Associate's degree plus 18 months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

4. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

5. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This title has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

* In-depth experience and familiarity with Blackboard learning management system.

* Broad knowledge of principles and practices in the information/instructional Technology field.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with faculties, staff and students.

* Ability to organize, conceptualize, and prioritize goals and exercise independent judgement based on the understanding of organizational policies and activities.

* Ability to conduct extensive research for the purpose of problem solving and situation analysis.

COMPENSATION

New Hire Salary: $41,175*
Incumbent Salary: $46,528
*This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
