I.T. Computer Systems Managers manage and direct an Information Technology area at a College or University level. They set policies and procedures, direct technical staff, and maintain responsibility for administrative as well as technical issues within their assigned area(s) of responsibility. They may manage major and/or large, complex information systems activities and/or manage a unit or group.

The Graduate Center (GC) is the principal doctorate-granting institution of the City University of New York (CUNY). Offering more than thirty doctoral degrees from Anthropology to Urban Education, and fostering globally significant research in a wide variety of centers and institutes, the GC provides academic training in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences.The Graduate Center is also integral to the intellectual and cultural vitality of New York City. Through its extensive public programs, The Graduate Center hosts a wide range of events - lectures, conferences, book discussions, art exhibits, concerts, and dance and theater that enrich and inform.

Information Technology (IT) is the division of The Graduate Center responsible for voice, video, and data systems and services. The mission of this unit is to promote, facilitate, and support the effective use of technology in the learning process, in instruction and research, and in processing and accessing institutional information.

Reporting directly to the Director of the Client Services Division, the Media Services Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the GC’s Audiovisual (AV) technology environment. This includes facilitation and provisioning of all AV services for all building venues, including the Proshansky Auditorium (seats 240), the Baisley Powell Elebash Recital Hall (seats 180), the Martin E. Segal Theatre (seats 70), and all classrooms/conference rooms. The various AV functions include: Video conferencing, LCD projectors, webinars, presentations, video streaming, recording, and digital signage. This position leads and manages the Media Services team by establishing, supporting, and advancing the technologies that align with the needs of the GC. The manager is also responsible for evaluating and implementing AV practices and policies, standards and configurations for software, hardware, and peripherals.

Duties include but are not limited to:

* Directs the workflow of technicians and organizes the daily floor activities to ensure timely setup, refresh, and removal of equipment. This includes monitoring the delivery, set up, tear down and testing of customer requested and/or room built in audiovisual and technology equipment such as projectors, screens, microphones, laptops, video-conference codecs, flat screen TVs, portable speakers, Blu-Ray players, and wireless presenter devices, etc.;

* Manages the installation, troubleshooting and programming of AV systems throughout the GC. This includes the ability to review CAD drawings, terminate video/audio cables, setup TVs, projector mounts, racks, and other AV equipment;

* Develops and enforces standard operating policies and procedures for audiovisual and multimedia equipment usage and ensures compliance with all applicable rules and regulations regarding maintenance and use of audiovisual and multimedia equipment;

* Oversees equipment maintenance schedules and preventative maintenance plans and procedures; assists with the management and maintenance of the AV asset inventory system; ensures inventory is maintained and updated on a regular basis; arranges for repairs and schedules preventive maintenance that cannot be performed in-house;

* Manages the design, logistics, and technical aspects of events based on the client’s vision and serves as an advocate for the GC community, working closely with individuals to document and understand their requirements and translate them into effective and reliable technology solutions;

* Manages and performs oversight of miscellaneous capital improvement projects from start to finish. This would include budget/program development, design, procurement and implementation;

* Assists with the hiring, training, and management of the Media Services staff; evaluates the performance of assigned staff; monitors performance and takes appropriate corrective action to address performance deficiencies; develops a training program for staff in the operation and use of AV tools and technologies to ensure they maintain acceptable knowledge and skill levels;

* Provides support for maintaining the video conferencing infrastructure and digital signage including hardware, software, resource allocation, and customer interaction; troubleshoots issues and coordinates with vendors for upgrades, new functionality, and problem resolution;

* Serves as liaison and project manager when needed for on-site audiovisual projects, in collaboration with other departments such as Special Events, Facilities, and Room Reservations to plan, implement, and complete all events on time and on budget;

* Maintains excellent working relationship with senior GC administrators, guests, faculty, students, and academic departments as well as outside AV design consultants, equipment vendors, and installers; works collaboratively with Systems Services to bring systems online including port assignments, testing, and troubleshooting;

* Responds to incident and request escalations from IT Services and diagnoses complex technical issues while involving the appropriate resources to come up with problem resolutions; and

* Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Six (6) years of progressively responsible full-time paid information systems technology experience, at least 18 months of which shall have been in an administrative or managerial capacity in the areas of computer applications programming, systems programming, information systems development, data telecommunications, data base administration or a closely related area.

2. Education at an accredited College or University may be substituted for the general information systems technology experience at the rate of one year of college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 4 years of college for 2 years of experience. In addition a Master's degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for an additional year of the general information systems technology experience. However, all candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative or managerial experience described above.

This title has multiple levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

A preferred candidate should have:

* Three to five years of experience with leading, managing, developing, and coaching audiovisual technicians and teams.

* Three to five years of experience with AV installations including equipment rack, site preparation, termination and calibration of audio and video equipment, and implementation of control systems.

* Extensive knowledge of VGA, DVI, HDMI, video conferencing solutions, audio installation and other cabling techniques.

* Some experience with developing budgets for projects.

* Strong working knowledge of audiovisual control systems such as Crestron, Kramer, Extron, etc. changes, implementation, operation, and troubleshooting.

* Experience with the analysis, design, integration, installation, and support of audiovisual systems hardware, software, and technical infrastructure.

* Advanced knowledge of current audiovisual, audio, video, and web conferencing technologies.

* Experience with video conferencing systems and streaming technology such as Lifesize, Polycom, BlueJeans, Vidyo, etc.

* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring quality deliverables through day-to-day activities.

* Familiarity with PC hardware, Mac hardware, Windows Operating System (Windows 7/10), and Mac OS X.

* InfoComm CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification, CTS-I, and CTS-D.

* Strong written, verbal, and communication skills.

* Ability to work a flexible schedule.
