POSITION DETAILS
York College seeks a service-oriented professional to join the Financial Aid Team to facilitate students' initial and continuing financial aid experience. This professional will provide comprehensive front-line customer service to students focused on financial aid resources, eligibility requirements, application completion and processing. The Financial Aid Specialist will interpret, apply and comply with Federal and State financial aid guidelines and University policies.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Specialist will work as part of a team of professionals to deliver in-person, phone, and e-mail financial aid information on grants, loans, applications, work-study, and other related programs and services to current and prospective students, families, and college staff. The successful candidate's duties will include but not be limited to the following:
* Perform Title IV verification for students in accordance with federal regulations, making all required corrections and finalizing awards.
* Monitor Lifetime Eligibility Usage and Transfer Monitor alerts and take action when necessary, notifying the student.
* Analyze and monitor information including disbursements, overpayments and repayments in FAA Access, COD, NSLDS and other related financial aid systems.
* Run/review Satisfactory Academic Progress each semester, take action, and communicate to student.
* Run queries and reports to identify those students who are out of compliance.
* Assist with Return of Title IV calculations.
* Evening and weekend coverage as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required. In addition, the following qualifications are highly preferred:
* Four years' experience in a fast-paced financial aid environment
* A current and comprehensive knowledge of federal and state aid programs regulatory compliance along with a high degree of proficiency with automated financial aid systems (preferably CUNYfirst/PeopleSoft/Oracle) required.
* Ability to communicate clearly through written and verbal communications required.
* The ability to work a permanent evening (10:30 AM to 6:30 PM) schedule and an occasional weekend is required.
* Strong organizational and problem solving skills, proven leadership record, attention to detail, ability to work independently, as well as part of a team required.
* Experience with student database/on-line systems, federal and state regulatory compliance highly preferred.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Access is also highly preferred.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Administers and supervises financial aid programs and operations.
* Reviews contracts, disbursements, tuition and fees; validates student eligibility for various programs
* Administers, monitors and troubleshoots CUNY financial aid systems as well as Federal and NY State systems in order to ensure integrity of student databases and timely and accurate delivery of funds
* Assists CUNY staff, applicants, and students/families with advice on financial aid issues and eligibility
* May review and reconcile student payroll processing
* Represents the Financial Aid function at Admissions events; works with academic departments as well as Bursar, Registrar, Admissions and Computing offices to assure staff understand and implement financial aid processes correctly
* Assists in the development and evaluation of Admissions processes
* Prepares documentation, instructions, and materials in various media to support financial aid activities
* Performs related duties as assigned.
