Reporting to the Admissions Director, the Deputy Director of International Student Services serves as the primary SEVIS compliance officer, international student immigration advisor and directs the delivery of comprehensive student services and advising for the international student population at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

The Deputy Director of International Student Services will perform the following duties in addition to the duties listed in the CUNY Title Overview:

* Serve as the primary resource for information regarding the interpretation and application of Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services and Department of State regulations pertaining to international students and scholars.

* Serve as Designated School Official ( DSO ) for F-1 Visa Program and Alternate Responsible Officer ( ARO ) for J-1 Exchange Visitor Program. Issue all I-20s and DS-2019s.

* Oversee compliance with federal reporting requirements for international students and scholars.

* Provide advising and workshops to international students and scholars regarding the maintenance of visa status, travel, transfer in/out, employment, curricular and optional practical training, and matters associated with the Department of Homeland Security.

* Provide guidance on personal, academic, social and acculturation issues toward supporting a successful transition to life in the U.S.

* Provide on-going coordination with university departments before and after student and scholar arrival, program development and implementation, policy development, advocacy, and special projects.

* Communicate with academic departments and administrative offices regarding international student issues.

* Manage all aspects of international student programming, including: International Student Orientation and pre-arrival logistics; cultural events and workshops; international student and scholar tax workshops; advising the International Student Association; and other appropriate student services specific to international students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

* Master's degree in International Education or related field preferred.

* Minimum 4-5 years’ experience and proficiency in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) as a Designated Student Official (DSO).

* Minimum 2 years and proficiency in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO). Must have extensive knowledge of complex F-1 and J-1 immigration regulations.

* 1-2 years supervisory experience.

* Knowledge of other immigration categories and regulations

* Experience filing applications with DHS and the Department of State

* Ability to become a DSO and ARO, which requires a U.S. permanent resident or citizen status.

* Demonstrated commitment to the goals and values of international education.

* Administrative experience working in higher education and/or an office involved in international programs.

* Broad knowledge of higher education internationalization.

* Ability to work with faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students, university administrators and the general public.

* Ability to speak and communicate effectively with diverse groups and constituencies.

* Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse community.

* Ability to multitask and work under pressure.

* Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.

* Knowledge of one or more languages other than English preferred, as well as experience working, living, and/or studying abroad strongly preferred.

* Knowledge of the use of social media.

* Reviews and analyzes the effectiveness of enrollment, recruitment, and marketing strategies
