POSITION DETAILS

The Manager of Events & Alumni Relations reports directly to the Director of Development and collaborates with the Director and VIce President of College Development/Chief Operating Officer of the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) Foundation.

BMCC has grown from 17,000 to over 27,000 students over the last decade and is located in the heart of downtown Manhattan. With offices in the recently opened Fiterman Hall overlooking the World Trade Center Memorial, the development office at BMCC is growing and requires a professional to coordinate our alumni relations function, take primary responsibility for our $1 million plus annual gala and organize other ticketed and non-ticketed events. The selected candidate will be responsible for the planning and execution of the annual gala, including budgeting, themes, logistics, vendor coordination, the journal, tribute videos, gala commitment tracking and effective execution. S/he will work to create an environment where alumni are motivated to return to BMCC and stay involved; an environment where the hospitality of our events and our student mission is well presented and memorable. The successful candidate will increase engagement and pride in the College's brand, ultimately leading to increased financial support from alumni and others.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Conceptualization, organization, management and execution of annual gala, several ticketed events, a number of non-ticketed cultivation/stewardship events and smaller dedication/recognition events that take place over the year.

* Cooperative work with colleagues to develop and track invitation lists for events, post-event tracking, collections and evaluation.

* Responsibility for the development, implementation and assessment of programs, events and services designed to increase alumni engagement with the College.

* Develop and maintain BMCC's alumni relations calendar including alumni events.

* Create and manage the Alumni Council information into a database.

* Work with Board members, as appropriate, in particular members of the Board Alumni Committee, and help manage committee meetings and follow-up.

* Collaborate with colleagues to update alumni information in the database.

* In collaboration with the Manager of the Annual Fund, manage the online presence of BMCC alumni relations including the monthly e-newsletter.

* Work with the Public Affairs Office to expand and enhance our social media and online strategies for alumni programs, events and services.

* Partner with the Manager of the Annual Fund, use media, social networking and on-line communications, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others to strengthen alumni relations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.

Other Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required and five to six years of experience in major event planning, alumni relations or related field, ideally in an educational setting. An advanced degree is preferred.

* Proven record of accomplishment that demonstrates initiative, creativity, and interpersonal skills.

* Willingness to take risks and solve problems creatively.

* Demonstrated ability to manage, organize, motivate, and delegate to others including volunteers.

* Ability to build effective long-term relationships both internally and externally; and the ability to articulate and advocate for institutional goals clearly.

* Strong interpersonal skills and the proven ability to collaborate, build team spirit, and achieve results.

* Excellent oral presentation and written communication skills.

* Detailed oriented with organizational skills, including the ability to simultaneously manage a large variety of tasks and set priorities.

* A commitment to customer service is essential.

* Able to deal with the pressure of deadlines.

* Familiarity with fundraising and/or donor relations best practices a plus.

* Proficient in PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, database management and social media.

* Experience working with Raisers Edge is a plus.

* Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
