POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Dean of Education at Queens College, the Academic Program Specialist will, in addition to the duties in the CUNY Title Overview:

* Liaise with the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) Office of Teaching Initiatives.

* Process all teacher certification applications for the Professional Education Unit (EPP).

* Serve as a resource person for candidates (Queens College students) seeking initial/professional teacher certification.

* Interview and advise candidates for certification.

* Make presentations to candidates and faculty on certification modifications and changes.

* Inform faculty of certification changes instituted by the NYSED.

* Interact with faculty and program coordinators regarding modifying programs to meet certification requirements.

* Communicate with other departments in the college to improve the overall process of certification.

* Facilitate certification workshops for both candidates and faculty.

* Prepare relevant literature for distribution for candidates on certification requirements.

* Accommodate and support recent graduates and other alumni in obtaining certification or certification extensions and obtaining certification in reciprocal states.

* Provide written documentation or confirmation of certification status.

* Resolve application issues with the New York State Education Department and/or the New York City Department of Education on behalf of program candidates or graduates.

* Maintain candidate records and update files, both paper and electronic; prepare periodic reports.

* Create and maintain certification content on the Certification Office's web page.

* Create and maintain job listings and posting board for all education/teaching openings;and disseminate these postings as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:

* A minimum of four (4) years experience in higher education.

* Functional knowledge of New York State Teacher (initial & professional), Educational Leaders (SBL,SOL), Counselors (School & Mental Health), and School Psychologists certification requirements.

* Functional knowledge of the New York State TEACH Online Services application system.

* Demonstrated ability to use major computer applications necessary for running an office (e.g.,database, word processing, web pages).

* Demonstrated organizational ,interpersonal,and communication skills.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.

* Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.

* Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings

* Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management

* Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services

* Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures

* Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials

* May supervise office operations and/or department budget

* Performs related duties as assigned.
