GENERAL DUTIES

Provides career counseling and participates in providing comprehensive career services programs.

* Provides employment and career counseling to students; may provide services to alumni

* Conducts workshops on resume writing, job search research methods, preparing for job interviews, and other topics

* Administers online job posting and resume search systems

* Coordinates on-campus recruitment programs and interviews; attends on and off-campus meetings with employers

* Maintains systems such as job banks, resource databases, and placement statistics; analyzes data; maintains department web site

* Coordinates career fairs and other career office events; prepares and distributes communications regarding events and programs

* Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The School of Public Affairs houses interdisciplinary and professional degree programs that prepare students for careers in the public and non-profit sectors. The School offers undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs in public administration and graduate degrees Education Administration both at the K-12 and post-secondary levels. Baruch College, located in mid-Manhattan, is a senior college in the City University of New York.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Career Services & Alumni Affairs, the Graduate Career Advisor (aHEO) is responsible for the daily delivery of career and alumni services at the School of Public Affairs in addition to participating in long-range planning and program development.

Specifically, the Coordinator will:

* Provide daily career counseling, job search, mock interview, and resume review meetings with current students and alumni.

* Lead relevant career workshops specific to a graduate population of the School of Public Affairs students and alumni.

* Utilize resources and tools on career services topics relevant to public affairs careers.

* Collect and analyze data on usage of the Career & Alumni Affairs Office.

* Support the ongoing usage of the jobs and internships database - Simplicity.

* Build relationships with employers including handling aspects of annual career fair as well as performing employer site visits and advising on fellowship application processes.

* Maintain contacts with alumni who are willing to provide informational interviews with current students for purposes of career exploration.

The Career Advisor will also work closely with the staff in the Office of Admissions & Enrollment Services, the Office of the Dean, and the Office of Academic Advising. The Career Advisor will also participate in all School-wide recruitment events and new student orientations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in an academic or comparable institution performing similar responsibilities preferred. Must have excellent communication skills, technology skills, initiative, and ability to assume responsibility and show evidence of exceptional achievement.

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
