POSITION DETAILS
Reporting directly to the Dean of the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing, the Academic Program Director will oversee the clinical portion of the undergraduate nursing program. Working strategically with the Associate Dean of the Undergraduate Program, the Director will be responsible for providing administrative and instructional leadership to improve the overall clinical experience of undergraduate nursing students. The Director will serve on the SON Curriculum committee. Given that training in clinical settings is of the utmost importance in the education of health care professionals, the individual in this position must be able to manage a wide variety of stakeholders including the HBSON leadership, full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, students and the staff at health care facilities which provide the clinical experiences for our students.
Specific responsibilities include:
* Oversight over clinical faculty.
* Responsible for hiring new clinical faculty.
* Manages the orientation of new clinical faculty to the nursing lab and clinical courses.
* Conducts sites visits to evaluate the performance of clinical faculty.
* Using the results of these evaluations, the Director will redesign and improve the clinical curriculum.
* Communicates with adjunct clinical faculty regarding any concerns including: student performance, safety, and/or questions about the site.
* Provides Dean and Curriculum Committee with results of clinical supervision in order to improve clinical experience for students.
* As part of the Curriculum Committee, the Director will help develop courses that meet the standard of nursing accreditation bodies.
* Maintains strategic partnerships with current health care facilities that provide clinical experience for HBSON students.
* Selects new heath care sites, which will provide the best clinical experience for the students.
* Meets with students to get their feedback on clinical experience
* Directs staff members who maintain contracts with health care sites and who make clinical assignments for individual students.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
RN required, MSN Preferred.
