GENERAL DUTIES
Assists in managing academic and administrative environmental health and safety programs.
* Prepares reports of activities, inventories, incidents, environmental monitoring and related matters
* Assists in the inspection of laboratories, chemical storage rooms and other facilities, ensuring compliance with government and university regulations
* Administers biological, chemical, and radioactive waste disposal programs by communicating with faculty and staff, organizing collection, and contacting appropriate disposal vendors
* May assist in developing compliance strategies and programs for various requirements such as EPA regulations, OSHA/PESH standards and New York's occupational and environmental regulations
* Works with members of the College community to provide professional guidance and assistance on environmental health and safety implications of various projects
* May respond to environmental health and safety complaints
* Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Hunter College Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), a unit within the Hunter College Office of Finance and Management, is responsible for the management of programs related to the protection of human health, occupational safety and the safeguard of the environment in a manner that is consistent with regulatory mandates and the academic and research goals of the college. We achieve this through safety training, comprehensive workplace evaluations, management (acquisition to disposal) of regulated waste streams, and regulatory compliance.
* Assist with services and tasks related to environmental, health, and safety programs to meet regulatory requirements and to assist the college meet its mission statement (chemical, biological and laboratory safety; air emissions, petroleum bulk management, OSHA/PESH compliance, student services, etc.)
* Provide leadership and technical expertise with regard to risk assessment activities related to EHS (e.g. environmental releases, injuries and illnesses, etc.).
* Perform audits to ensure compliance with governmental and institutional mandates.
* Develop and implement facility-wide policies, procedures, and EHS-related training programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards.
* Inspect facilities and operations and conduct audits to ensure compliance with regulatory mandates and institutional policies (IBC, Radiation Safety, Crisis Management, etc.).
* Conducts accident and incident investigations.
* Actively promotes environmental, health, and safety activities, participates in committees and meetings, and provides miscellaneous services.
* Prepare plans, practice response scenarios and respond to EHS-related emergencies.
* Become familiar with the operation and maintenance of testing, monitoring and emergency response equipment and supplies.
* Promote positive relationships with government agencies and academic institution that collaborate with the college.
* Motivate direct and indirect reporting staff to achieve desired results.
* Communicate effectively with site management and employees.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Strong Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and Fire Department of New York (FDNY) regulations. Environmental Health and Safety: EPA's Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), OSHA's (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) HAZWOPER, DOT's Hazmat. OSHA and EPA training. Experience in presenting / running safety- related programs.
COMPENSATION
Commensurate with qualification within the range for this title ($42,873 to $61,903)
