The Department of Media Arts and Technology at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) invites applications for an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position in Multimedia Programming and Design starting Fall 2016.

The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is an integral part of the City University of New York (CUNY) with the largest college enrollment in the CUNY system of over 25,000 students. It is strategically located in downtown Manhattan in close proximity to the artistic communities of Tribeca and SoHo, the dynamic downtown financial district, and the center of New York City government at City Hall.

The Media Arts and Technology Department is undergoing a process of growth and would like to attract new faculty that will share and contribute to this process through teaching, research and guidance in area(s) of Multimedia Programming and Design. They will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions for the good of the institution.

Media Arts and Technology faculty teach, research and provide guidance in area(s) of expertise. Research and publication are expected for tenure and promotion. The newly hired faculty is expected to teach core Multimedia Programming and Design courses such as Introduction to Multimedia and Multimedia Programming I as well as upper level courses and topics from among the following: web design, advanced web design, JavaScript programming, WordPress and mobile web apps, Interactive Project Lab. It is expected that in collaboration with other faculty, faculty develop curriculum especially in the area of interactive media production. Faculty further participate in department and college activities such as grant writing, assessment, faculty development and mentoring students. An evening/weekend schedule may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Ph.D. or equivalent terminal MFA/MPS in the appropriate field. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. College teaching experience is required.

For Associate Professor and Professor, the candidate must have a record of significant achievement in the field. Experience working on or teaching interactive projects in areas such as web development, mobile app development, physical computing or the Internet of Things is a plus. The successful candidate will combine interactive media production experience with excellent technical and instructional skills.
