GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Associates perform moderately complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Associates work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving complex technology problems and serving as a technical resource. They have considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may have supervisory responsibilities.

I.T. Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting directly to the Director of Web Services in the Department of Marketing and Development, the Web Developer will be responsible for developing applications, websites, and software modules using innovative new technologies. He/she will also be responsible for performance testing and delivering the end products and modules following the software development lifecycle. The candidate will work closely with other application development team members to develop specifications and procedures as well as make recommendations on the use of existing and emerging technologies. He/she will utilize the industry best practices and develop methods to ensure the success of any project. The position requires independent analysis, excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

The scope of this position includes, but is not limited to, the following:

* Create and maintain website and its appearance by enforcing content accuracy and display standards along with editing submissions for change.

* Maintenance of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice college website, its applications and its services.

* Maintenance for applications hosted on the John Jay College website and intranet servers.

* Research, develop and recommend new web based applications and technologies.

Candidate should be able to perform system administration and integration of the College web and Intranet servers.

Duties include:

* Backing up and recovering server content, security auditing, system patching, the installation of new web based applications and the maintenance of supporting web databases.

* Create in-house applications and provide support for all service calls concerning issues related to the College website and its hosted applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

2. An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This job has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

* Knowledge and experience designing web pages.

* Working knowledge of HTML 5 and CSS at a code reading level.

* Working knowledge of graphic/image tools (e.g., Photoshop / Illustrator) and visual HTML editors (e.g., Dreamweaver).

* Experience with Drupal CMS is a must.

* Highly motivated, good work ethic, fast learner, and punctual.

* Ability to prioritize tasks and work with minimal supervision.

* Excellent public service skills and ability to provide support in a personable manner (phone/in person).

* Excellent oral and written communications skills.

* Ability to work independently and follow written instructions.

* Ability to work in a team environment and be project oriented.

* Experience with Visual Studio, ASP.NET, PHP, Internet Information Server is a plus.

COMPENSATION

$66,665

Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
