With Sydney’s last fashion of double-decker bus which retired in style, London-style big red bus is now stirring up back into the fashion putting its two-tiered transport back on the road.

The Northern beaches-based Forest Coach Lines will execute this plan and put into service a double-decker as it will reduce the fuel consumption and help cut the “conga line” of crowding buses in the city and Harbor Bridge during the peak times.

This is a 96-seat vehicle that provides 32 more seats and is called the “Airbus A380 of buses” accommodating more passengers in the automobile.

When it comes to bendy buses, a lot of time is consumed because sometimes the drivers are impelled to wait to pick up passengers and drop them off, taking up 18 meters of kerb in comparison to 12.5 meters for the double-decker. However, the Airbus helps to do away with the entire daily congestion problem along the city labyrinth especially on the York Street.

According to the Booz and Co, a government-commissioned entity, the bus congestion between the city traffic and the Harbor Bridge costs the state and its commuters $13 million a year in the lost revenue and time consumed to travel.

Transport for NSW – a new super agency will be watching the Forest trial very closely and according to their information, the company needs government approval before sanctioning more double-deckers to the State Transit and its entire fleet in the market.

There are few setbacks of the Airbus. Due to fewer internal stairs and doors, the loading and unloading takes a while as compared to the bendy buses.

Corinne Mulley, who happens to be a Sydney University professor, said that the extra seating in the bus is an attractive option for the commuters which would probably encourage the people to get out of their car comfort and climb on to the bus to catch up with their routine.

As recorded since 2006, the passenger load on Forest’s central city route has increased from 53,000 to 85,000 per month. David Royle, the Director of Forest is hoping that the government enters a partnership deal with them and allows them to sanction more buses on the road for the benefit and convenience of the public, the same people who are losing their patience due to the congested transport system.
