On February 3, honor the path that female doctors have paved since 1849 as we recognize National Women Physicians Day. This day marks the birthday of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States in 1849. Dr. Blackwell initiated the movement that helped women gain entry and equality in the field of medicine.

A video in support of UNICEF campaign shared by Priyanka:

Actress Priyanka Chopra has shared a video in support of UNICEF's campaign to end malnutrition in children. "Forty-eight million children across the world are going through terrible conflicts and disasters. They need you," she said. She urged the people to come forward and help the children. Priyanka was appointed the global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to promote child rights in 2016.

India Art Fair starts in Delhi:

The ninth edition of the four-day India Art Fair began at the NSIC grounds in Okhla, New Delhi on Thursday. The art fair, considered to be among the biggest events for contemporary art in South Asia, features 72 Indian and international galleries this year. It will also host panel discussions and curated walks.

A note ban bill introduced by Arun Jaitley Arun Jaitley:

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today introduced the Specified Bank Notes (Cessation of Liabilities) Bill 2017 in Lok Sabha. The Bill aims at replacing the note ban ordinance that extinguishes the liability of the government and the RBI on demonetised high-value notes. The ordinance was approved by the President in December, making it illegal to hold, transfer, or receive old notes.

In 2016 India recorded highest domestic air passenger growth:

India recorded the highest growth of 23.3% in domestic air travel demand worldwide for the second year in a row in 2016, International Air Transport Association has said. India was followed by China, which recorded about half of India's domestic air passenger volume growth. All major markets except Brazil showed growth, but India and China were stand-out performers, IATA said.

National Rail Museum celebrates 40th anniversary:

The National Rail Museum in New Delhi celebrated its 40th anniversary on Wednesday. The museum, which houses a large collection of life-size rail exhibits, allows visitors to take a tour on a toy train. Its attractions include the saloons of the Maharajas of Indore and Mysore and Fairy Queen, the oldest working steam locomotive still in operation.

CBDT: Rs.4 lakh crore suspicious cash deposited post note ban:

The Central Board of Direct Taxes on Thursday said that Rs.4.17 lakh crore of suspicious cash was deposited by about 18 lakh people post demonetisation of high-denomination currency notes. E-mail and SMS queries have been sent to 13 lakh people under "Operation Clean Money", while data of another 10 lakh people is being accumulated, CBDT added.

By Vanguard, Ola's valuation slashed 40% to $3 billion:

US-based investment firm Vanguard Group has slashed the valuation of its stake in Ola by 40%, bringing the cab-hailing startup's valuation close to $3 billion. Ola's valuation was at a peak of $5 billion when it last raised $500 million in funding in November 2015. Vanguard also owns a small stake in another billion-dollar Indian startup Flipkart.

Child development raised by 25% according to Budget allocation to women:

The Centre has increased the budget allocation for Women and Child Development by about 25% to Rs.22,095 crore. The government has also allocated Rs.2,700 crore for the maternity benefit scheme which entitles Rs.6,000 per pregnant woman. However, the allocation for Nirbhaya fund, which includes supporting NGOs working for the safety of women, has remained constant at Rs.500 crore.

Government: 15% of the country prone to landslide:

About 15% of the country is landslide-prone and as on today there is no warning system that can predict its occurrence, the government on Thursday said. In a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, YS Chowdary, Minister of State in the Ministry of Earth Sciences, said all the landslide-prone stretches are mapped.

In Punjab Restaurant opens in retired Air India plane:

A restaurant built in a retired Air India Airbus A320 has recently opened in Ludhiana, Punjab. The first of its kind in India, the 72-seater restaurant is named Hawai Adda. It serves vegetarian food and features a cafe, a bakery and a hall that can hold as many as 40 customers.

To popularise digital payments Rs.94 crore spent on post note ban:

The government on Thursday said that nearly Rs.94 crore has been committed by the government post demonetisation for spreading awareness on digital payments and less-cash economy. Of this, Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity paid around Rs.15 crore for advertisements released between November 9-January 25, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said.

Govt asks taxpayers to e-verify deposits made post note ban:

The Income Tax Department has asked taxpayers to verify online the deposits they made post demonetisation and respond to queries in case of any mismatch. The department is using data analytics to identify taxpayers whose transactions are not in line with their tax-paying profile. Earlier, the department said it will question 18 lakh taxpayers whose deposits don't match their profile.

In an hour Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos loses Rs.19,000 crore:

E-commerce major Amazon's Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos net worth dropped by $2.8 billion (around Rs.19,000 crore) on Thursday as his company’s stock fell more than 4%. The fall in the stock came after Amazon’s fourth-quarter revenue didn't meet analysts' expectations. Bezos has now become the world's fourth richest person with a fortune of $69.4 billion (nearly Rs.4.6 lakh crore).

Suresh Prabhu: All new railway coaches & stations to be made friendly to differently abled persons:

All the new railway coaches and stations in the country will invariably be made friendly to the differently-abled persons. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu told this to the Rajya Sabha today during Question Hour.

Responding to members' suggestions in this regard, he said the government’s objective is to make all stations and coaches differently abled-friendly. He said experts are being consulted for suitable designs for differently abled-friendly new coaches .

The United Arab Emirates' Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed has said that US President Donald Trump's immigration ban on citizens of Seven Muslim-majority nations is not Islamophobic and does not target any one religion. He further said that the banned countries faced "challenges" that they themselves need to address. Notably, UAE is a close ally of the United States.

In October New story by George RR Martin to be published:

Author George RR Martin has revealed that a new short story titled 'The Sons of the Dragon' will be published in fantasy anthology 'The Book of Swords' on October 10. The story will revolve around the reigns of the second and third Targaryen kings. Other authors featured in the anthology are Robin Hobb, Ken Liu, Garth Nix and Scott Lynch.

ICICI Bank recommences transactions via Flipkart's PhonePe:

ICICI Bank has allowed its customers to process UPI transactions via Flipkart-owned digital wallet app PhonePe. "The merchant has now adhered to the NPCI guidelines on interoperability by making the necessary corrections in its app," said the bank. Transactions through PhonePe were blocked by the bank accusing it of "restrictive practice" by allowing payments only through its own UPI handle.

In India Apple to start its manufacturing:

Tech giant Apple has reached an agreement with the Karnataka government to set up a manufacturing plant in Bengaluru. "Apple’s decision on initial manufacturing in Bengaluru has further enhanced the reputation of Bengaluru as the most preferred destination for foreign investment," the Karnataka government said. Apple is reportedly expected to start production for the Indian market in April.

In immigration ban Microsoft's open letter seeks exceptions:

American technology major Microsoft has written an open letter to the White House seeking exceptions in US President Donald Trump's executive order banning immigration from seven countries. Microsoft is seeking exceptions for affected "responsible known travelers with pressing needs” regarding work and family, to re-enter the country. As many as 76 Microsoft employees are affected by the ban.

Astronomers have detected the presence of water molecules in the atmosphere of a nearby exoplanet. Located 50 light years away, '51 Pegasi b' is the first exo-planet discovered orbiting a star and the first known 'hot Jupiter'. It has a high surface temperature, as it orbits its parent star very closely, at a distance of only 75 lakh km.

Rex Tillerson confirmed as Trump's Secretary of State:

Former ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson has been confirmed as US President Donald Trump's Secretary of State on Wednesday after a 56-to-43 vote. The votes against Tillerson were the highest in history as all but four Democrats voted against him. Concerns were raised about his Russian ties, while Democrats tried delaying the vote to question Tillerson about Trump's immigration ban.

Ride-hailing app Uber's CEO Travis Kalanick has quit US President Donald Trump's business advisory council over the executive order banning immigrants from seven Muslim-majority nations. This comes after people in the US started deleting Uber's app over Kalanick's ties with Trump. In a memo to employees, Kalanick wrote, "We will fight for the rights of immigrants in our communities".

Following her victory in the Malaysia Masters, Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal has gained one place in the latest BWF rankings to take the ninth position. Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu has retained her sixth position after clinching the Syed Modi International Badminton Championship. Notably, Sindhu continues to be the highest-ranked Indian shuttler in the women's singles category.

15-year-old jr shuttler from Dehradun ranked world number 1:

Lakshya Sen, a 15-year-old shuttler from Dehradun, is badminton's top-ranked junior player in the world. Cueist Pankaj Advani won the Indian National Snooker Championship in Pune on Thursday to register his 29th national title. With the win, Advani becomes the only Indian men's cueist to hold all national billiards and snooker titles at the same time. He is the only player in the world to win world titles in all formats of billiards and snooker.

India rise to second on ICC ranking,s Virat Kohli remains top T20 batsman:

Virat Kohli maintained his top spot in the latest ICC rankings of T20 batsmen while India have gained a spot by virtue of their series win against England to climb to the second spot in the team rankings.

Lakshya Sen - World No.1 Junior Badminton player

India's Lakshya Sen has become the World No 1 Junior Badminton player. He achieved the distinction yesterday in the latest rankings of the Badminton World Federation(BWF).

Lakshya, who is considered as the shining future star of Indian badminton, moved ahead of Chia Hao Lee of the Chinese Taipei, to attain the top spot. According to BWF current rankings, Lakshya has 16,903 points in eight tournaments he has played in the season. Chia Hao, who is at the second spot, has 16,091 points.
