84th Air Force Day observed across India
i. The Air Force Day 2016 was on 8 October 2016 observed across India. This is the 84th celebration of the Day that began in 1932.
ii. On this day, the most renowned aerobatics display teams, Red Arrows of the Royal Air Force (RAF), enthralled audience at Indian Air Force Day celebrations in New Delhi. They flew Hawk jets, which are single-engine advanced trainer aircraft.
iii. Besides, the Indian Air Force air displayed various aircrafts at Air Force Station Hindan in Uttar Pradesh.
Devendra Fadnavis inaugurates India’s first international arbitration centre in Mumbai
i. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday inaugurated India’s first centre for international arbitration in Mumbai. The Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration (MCIA) will initially be located at Express Towers.The MCIA will be governed by a 17-member governing council.
ii. The London Court of International Arbitration and Singapore International Arbitration Centre each accounts for 30% of cases that involved Indian businesses.

Bathukamma Event Enters Guinness Book of World Records
The Telangana government on Saturday organised the traditional state festival of 'Bathukamma' on at the Lal Bahadur stadium in Hyderabad.The event, attended by about ten thousand women, found a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. The Telangana government has declared 'Bathukamma' as a state festival.
Telangana state festival 'Bathukamma' today entered the Guinness Book of World Records as 9,292 women participated in the ceremony at L.B. Stadium that was also attended by Tennis star Sania Mirza here.
They achieved this feat despite bad weather and as they danced around bathukamma (flower stack, arranged with different unique seasonal flowers most of them with medicinal values).

All villages in the country to be electrified by May 2017, says Power Minister
Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal assured that India would have 100 per cent electrification for all by May 1, 2017. India would have 100 per cent electrification for all by May 1, 2017, Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal said on Saturday.
"I am confident that 100 per cent electrification in rural, Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) districts and dense forests would be achieved by May 1, 2017 Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and West Bengal are considered LWE or Maoist affected states.
Goyal also launched the Urban Jyoti Abhiyaan Mobile (Urja) app, developed by the state-run Power Finance Corporation, to enhance consumer connect with the urban power distribution sector by providing information of IT-enabled towns on parameters like outage information, release of connections, addressing complaints and power reliability.
OIL gets green nod for Rs 220 cr drilling project in Jaisalmer
State-run Oil India Ltd (OIL) has received environment clearance for Rs 220-crore development drilling project in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan.
The company received the green nod for development drilling of 20 wells in Baghewala mining lease block in Jaisalmer district.
OIL had discovered natural gas in Jaisalmer sub-basin of Tanot fields and heavy oil in the Bikaner-Nagaur sub-basin in early nineties. Now, the company has proposed to undertake development drilling of 20 wells in the Baghewala mining lease block.
Delhi Police to 'up its game' in tackling online stalking and child abuse
Delhi Police has decided to "up its game" in tackling online stalking and child abuse by taking help of some of the most advanced software used by US law enforcement agencies.
According to a study released by UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), one of the greatest gaps in fighting online child abuse is the lack of skilled and dedicated personnel among law enforcement agencies in key investigative areas.

Sikkim to promote Kanchendzonga as eco-tourism destination
India's highest mountain peak Mount Kanchendzonga and Kanchendzonga National Park, recently declared a world heritage site, will be promoted as eco- tourism destinations for trekking, mountaineering, and other adventure activities.
The Sikkim government has formulated plans in association with the Indian Mountaineering Federation (IMF) to start circumambulation tours in the periphery of Mt Kanchendzonga, located at 28,169 feet. The peak is the guardian deity of Sikkim and is considered sacred by the Sikkimese people.

Assam CM inaugurated the first Model Skill Development Centre in Guwahati
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated first Model Skill Development Centre “Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra” at Panjabari, Guwahati. It is an initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and National Skill Development Corporation. The Centre will give training to the unemployed youths in 13 job roles.

China moots BRICS free trade area ahead of Goa summit
BRICS Summit scheduled at Goa in the upcoming week, China mooted a free trade area for the five-member-bloc of emerging countries on October 9, saying that such a move would constitute a "significant form of cooperation".
By setting up a free trade area, BRICS countries would be able to remove tariff and non-tariff barriers, advance trade and liberalise investments among member nations, China's spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce (MOC),Shen Danyang, told a press briefing.
Indo-Pak border to be completely sealed in next 2 years : Home Minister
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that Indo-Pak border will be completely sealed by December 2018. The action was taken amid the rising tensions between the two nations mainly after the army strike on militant bases in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Singh informed about the decision after holding a meeting of states sharing border with Pakistan in Jaisalmer. This sealing will be monitored at MHA level, BSF level and chief secretary level.
Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje, Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal, Gujarat's Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Brij Raj Sharma were the participants of the meeting to review security arrangements at the border. The meeting is being held in the presence of senior BSF officials.
Besides, the Home Minister also asked the countrymen to trust the security forces and stand by them. Singh kicked off his two-day visit to the border districts of Jaisalmer and Bermer in Rajasthan. On 8 October, he will visit Munabao BOP in Barmer district and also interact with Army personnel there.

SEBI proposes ban on trading tips through SMS, WhatsApp
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has proposed a ban on unauthorised trading tips through SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media platforms, as well as on games and leagues relating to securities market.
It also proposed to curb unsolicited investment advice through electronic and broadcasting media platforms and a detailed advertisement code for those providing such advice.
HDFC Realty mulls helping banks dispose of defaulter assets
Taking its experience in selling properties of Sahara and PACL for Sebi a step further, real estate advisory firm HDFC Realty is considering helping banks sell properties of defaulters and recover loans.
"Banks have certain assets which are under stress and are not able to recover them from borrowers. These loans can be taken by corporates or individuals where property is mortgaged," HDFC Realty Chief Executive Vikram Goel told PTI here.
Market regulator had appointed HDFC Realty and SBI Capital Markets to e-auction properties of Sahara and PACL, which had defaulted on payments.
Chinese central bank injects $41 bn via mid-term lending
China's central bank lent 275 billion yuan ($41.24 billion) via its medium-term lending facility (MLF) to financial institutions in September, it said in a statement on Saturday. The outstanding amount of MLF was 1.91 trillion yuan ($286 billion) by September-end. The central bank also lent 552 million yuan ($83 million) through its standing lending facility last month, it added.

Aegon Life to invest Rs 200 cr in IT to push online sales
Aegon Life plans to invest Rs 200 crore in digital technology in the next two to three years as it looks to tap growing online retail channel as part of its strategy to become a 'direct-to-consumers' company.
Aegon Life Insurance has also changed its strategy to become a "direct-to-consumers" company and exited the agency channel in August this year.

ONGC signs pact to buy stake in GSPC's KG basin block
State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has signed a preliminary agreement to take an operating stake in Gujarat government firm GSPC's KG basin gas block.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last week has a dispute resolution mechanism set out wherein any differences over issues like valuation or natural gas reserves would be referred to a three-member committee of outside experts.
Doordarshan, IGNOU sign agreement for telecast of Gyan Darshan channels
Doordarshan and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) have entered into an agreement for transmission of four Gyan Darshan educational channels.
Gyan Darshan ran successfully till June 2, 2014, but was shut down by ISRO to facilitate its migration from INSAT 3C to GSAT-10.

Chinese president appoints new ambassador from various country’s
President Xi Jinping has appointed Luo Zhaohui as China's new ambassador to India, in accordance with a decision from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the top legislature. Luo, 54, was China's ambassador to Canada from 2014 to 2016.
Before that, Luo served as director general of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2014, according to the website of the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi.
Former Chinese ambassador to India Le Yucheng left New Delhi in April, according to the website.
Xi has also appointed new ambassadors to a further six countries.
He Xiangdong was appointed ambassador to South Sudan, replacing Ma Qiang.
Zhou Pingjian was appointed ambassador to Nigeria, replacing Gu Xiaojie.
Xiong Bo was appointed ambassador to Cambodia, replacing Bu Jianguo.
Sun Weidong was appointed ambassador to Turkmenistan, replacing Xiao Qinghua.
Xiao Qinghua was appointed ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, replacing Qi Dayu.

Alibaba affiliate Ant Financial names new CEO
Chinese e-commerce major Alibaba's financial affiliate Ant Financial has appointed its President Eric Jing as its new Chief Executive Officer. The move comes ahead of the company considering to launch its initial public offering (IPO) in 2017. Notably, Ant Financial, which is worth at least $75 billion (₹5 lakh crore), is China’s largest online financial services company.
Indian-origin barrister Shami Chakrabarti appointed to UK shadow cabinet
Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition, on 7 October 2016 appointed Indian-origin barrister Shami Chakrabarti to the UK’s shadow cabinet.
Baroness Chakrabarti’s appointment as a member of the Lords was met with criticism from prominent Jews and Labour MPs.
Corbyn also handed a major promotion to his long-time ally Diane Abbott, making her shadow home secretary.
Other appointees include Sir Keir Starmer, who has been invited back as shadow Brexit secretary.
AERA looks to rank Indian airports Delhi Airport as NO: 1 in India
The Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), the regulator that fixes charges of major airports, is likely to rank Indian airports based on their passenger amenities and facilities.
At present, the performance of Indian airports is evaluated and ranked according to the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) rankings, which is done by the Airports Council International (ACI) a global body of major airports across the world. ACI counts Incheon, Zurich, Changi among its members.
Its rankings had Delhi Airport being adjudged the best in the 25-40 million passenger per annum category for the last two years.
Tata Motors 2nd most valuable Asian automaker outside Japan
Tata Motors has surpassed South Korean automaker Hyundai to become the second most valuable automaker in Asia outside Japan, Bloomberg data showed. The Indian automaker's valuation stands at about $27.3 billion, while Hyundai’s market capitalisation is around $27 billion. Chinese state-owned automobile firm SAIC, valued at $36 billion, is currently the most valuable Asian carmaker outside Japan.

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan received the 'Outstanding Celebrity Woman of the Year' award on Friday, during the 7th Outlook Business Outstanding Women Awards by Outlook Business magazine. IndiGo introduces child-free zones on its flights
Indian budget carrier IndiGo has announced child-free zones for its flights' premium seats, where passengers under 12 years of age are not allowed. “Keeping in mind the comfort... of all passengers”, these will be kept as a 'Quiet Zone', IndiGo stated. It also added that children are not allowed to sit in rows with emergency exits and additional leg room.

Harika Dronavalli Beats Hou Yifan At International Chess Meet
India's Harika Dronavalli defeated World No. 1 Hou Yifan of China to be at joint fourth position in the Isle of Man international Chess tournament.
This tournament was took place from October 1st to 9th, 2016. Harika is now with five points after seven rounds, just one and a half points behind the championship leader Eljanov Pavel of Ukraine.
Sprinter Srabani Nanda wins Ekalabya Award
Sprinter Srabani Nanda has bagged the 24th Ekalabya Award for the year 2016 in recognition of her sporting excellence. Srabani won gold in 200m, silver in 100m and 4x100m relay in 12th South Asian Games held in Guwahati in February. She had also won bronze in 100m and 4x100m relay in Asian Grand Prix Athletics in Thailand in June 2015.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia wins Mayor’s Trophy gold for India
Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia won the gold medal for India at the Mayor’s Trophy International Invitational Wrestling competition in Pune on Saturday.
Punia defeated Mongolia’s Batchuluun Batmagnai 6-4 in the Men’s 65-kg category's final. Wrestlers Nitin and Jitender settled for silver medals in the 57-kg and 74-kg categories respectively at the event, which saw participation from eight nations.
Kohli 1st Indian to score 2 Test double centuries as captain
India's Virat Kohli became the first Indian Test captain to score two double centuries after scoring his first double hundred on home soil on the second day of the third Test against New Zealand on Sunday.
Kohli also became the fifth Indian to score two double centuries in a year after Vinod Kambli, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid.
Mercedes' Rosberg wins Japanese Grand Prix
Mercedes' German Formula One driver Nico Rosberg won the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka on Saturday. Starting on the pole position, Rosberg won his maiden Japanese Grand Prix ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen and teammate Lewis Hamilton. With the win, Rosberg now holds a 33 point advantage over teammate Lewis Hamilton in the drivers' championship standings.
