1. Indian Navy’s Marine Commandos’ INS Karna commissioned



Indian Navy has commissioned INS Karna, an independent base of Marine Commandos (MARCOS) at Bheemunipatanam Naval Base, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

INS Karna has been commissioned by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba.

The commissioning of a new base to the Special Forces of the Indian Navy will play important role to safeguard our nation’s vast maritime interests.

Captain Varun Singh will be the Commanding Officer of INS Karna.

Note:-

Marine Commando Force (MCF) was raised as the Indian Marine Special Force (IMSF) in February 1987 at INS Abhimanyu in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

It is capable of operating in all three dimensions (air, sea and land).

The unit has progressed in terms of manpower, equipment holding, infrastructure and other resources.

MARCOS have successfully taken part in operations undertaken by the Indian Navy such as Operation Zabardast , Operation Leech, Operation Tasha,Operation Sagittarius and Operation Rahat.

2. NASA’s JunoCam sends back first images of Jupiter



JunoCam-the camera aboard NASA’s Juno mission has sent back first images of Jupiter.

The pictures include three of the four largest moons of the King of planets taken after the spacecraft entered its orbit on the 4th of this month.

The new view was obtained when the spacecraft was 4.3 million kilometres from Jupiter.

The colour image shows atmospheric features on Jupiter, including the famous Great Red Spot, and three of the massive planet’s four largest moons.

JunoCam is a colour, visible-light camera designed to capture remarkable pictures of Jupiter’s poles and cloud tops.

3. IDFC Bank acquires Grama Vidiyal



IDFC Bank (Infrastructure Development Finance Company) has announced to acquire micro finance institution Grama Vidiyal in an all-cash deal.

The bank has obtained in-principle approval from the Reserve Bank of India for the deal.

The acquisition gives IDFC Bank access to Grama Vidiyal’s 12 lakh customers across 7 States, besides giving it 319 branches across 65 districts in these States.

The acquisition will help the bank reach out to those segments of customers that are usually not served by the banking system, besides transforming it into a mass retail bank.

All 3,000 employees will be absorbed by IDFC Bank and the current top management of the micro finance institution will remain.

Grama Vidiyal has a presence in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Puducherry, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

4. E-filing: ATM-based validation facility enhanced

The Income Tax department has widened the ATM-based validation system for filing of online Returns by taxpayers.

The department has included Axis Bank to enhance the paperless regime of filing the annual Income Tax returns.

Earlier,the department had launched the bank account-based validation facility in this regard for those who have not availed the internet banking facility.

Electronic Verification Code can also be generated by pre-validating the ATM provided by Axis Bank.

The new facility is available on the official e-filing portal of the department- incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.

These measures are used to validate the e-ITR so that the taxpayer does not take the trouble of sending the paper-based ITR-V by post for final resolution and processing.

5. HDFC Bank’s Aditya Puri named best banking CEO in Asia

The chief executive and managing director (MD) of the second largest private sector lender HDFC Bank Aditya Puri has been ranked as the best banking CEO in Asia by the investor community.

The bank’s chief financial officer Sashi Jagdishan has been ranked as the best CFO.

Apart from getting ranked as the best IR company as well, thereby making it the most honoured one in the Institutional Investor magazine.

The survey encompassed 1,541 companies from 18 sectors across Asia, excluding Japan.

6. SC reinstates Nabam Tuki-led Cong govt in Arunachal Pradesh

The Supreme Court ordered the restoration of former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki’s Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh.

A five-judge constitution bench pronounced the verdict on a bunch of petitions dealing with discretionary powers of Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa to summon or advance the assembly session.

The court set aside all steps and decision taken by the Legislative Assembly pursuant to Governor’s December 9th, last year order saying that they are unsustainable.

Earlier, 20 rebel Congress legislators along with 11 BJP and 2 independent MLAs impeached the speaker and voted out Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in an assembly session held in a makeshift venue and elected Kalikho Pul as the next Chief Minister unanimously.

He got the support of 18 dissident Congress MLAs and two independents, with 11 BJP MLAs giving him outside support.

Sensing the political crisis Centre imposed President’s Rule in the state on January 26 and was lifted on February 19 last thus letting Kalikho Pul to form a new government.

7. D Rajkumar appointed CMD of BPCL; Utpal Bora to head Oil India

D Rajkumar and Utpal Bora has appointed as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Oil India Ltd, respectively.

Rajkumar, at present, working as Managing Director of Bharat Petro Resources Ltd, a unit of BPCL focused on exploration and production.

Bora is Executive Director in Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Limited.

8. Najma Heptullah quits, Naqvi gets a promotion

Union minister for Minority Affairs Najma Heptullah tendering her resignation and  Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi being given independent charge of that Ministry.

G.M. Siddheshwara, Davangere MP and Minister of State for Heavy Industries have also resigned.

Minister of State for Urban Development Babul Supriyo has been assigned Mr. Siddheshwara’s portfolio, after being divested of his former charge.

Ms. Heptullah, who had been the deputy chairperson of the Rajya Sabha for many years, was abroad during the Cabinet reshuffle last week and quit when she returned.

9. Railways launch time-tabled Auto Express from Gurgaon to Nidvanda

Indian Railways has launched time-tabled Auto Express from Gurgaon to Nidvanda to ensure faster delivery of cargo.

It is the first time-tabled auto car freight train service between Gurgaon and Nidvanda (Bangalore).

At present about 2000 cars move per month between Gurgaon and Nidavanda.

With launch of the time tabled run of the freight train for automobile traffic, the volume will go up and the number of trips are likely to increase resulting transportation of about 6000 cars a month.

10. Maharastra police launches four mobile apps

Maharashtra police has launched four mobile apps for timely intervention into emergency situations.

The four applications Pratisaad Ask, Police Mitra, Vahanchoritakrar and Railway helpline app were launched by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Nagpur.

With the launch of these apps, dependency on police emergency number 100 would reduce substantially and citizens can reach out to police to report any emergency situation or crime like robbery or assault on women 24X7.

11. India, Bangladesh sign deal for construction of coal fired power plant

India and Bangladesh have signed a landmark deal for the construction of a 1,320 Megawatt coal fired power plant.

It is the biggest project under bilateral cooperation that would mark the transition from electricity export to generation level.

Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL) is the joint venture enterprise inked the deal with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).

The combined experience of BHEL and NTPC will ensure that the best technology and international environmental norms are adopted so as to make the project as environmentally friendly as possible.
