Operation ‘SankatMochan’ launched to evacuate Indian citizens from South Sudan:
· Union Government started the operation 'SankatMochan' to evacuate its citizens stranded in South Sudan's capital Juba.
· Two C-17 military transport aircrafts have been pressed in service to make the evacuation.
· The operation being undertaken by Indian Air Force (IAF) will be headed by Minister of State for External Affairs General (Retd.) VK Singh.
· The Indian Ambassador in South Sudan SrikumarMenon and his team is organising this operation on the ground.
Union Cabinet approves Pradhan Mantri Kaushal VikasYojana:
· The Union Cabinet approved the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) with an outlay of 12000 crore rupees to impart skilling to one crore people over the next four years (2016-2020).
· PMKVY will impart fresh training to 60 lakh youths and certify skills of 40 lakh persons acquired non-formally under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
· The target allocation between fresh trainings and RPL will be flexible and interchangeable depending on functional and operational requirements.
Vice President embarks on 2-day visit to Mongolia to attend ASEM summit:
· Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari left for Mongolia to lead the Indian delegation at the 11th Asia -Europe Meeting. The two-day ASEM Summit is being held at UlaanBaatar - the capital of Mongolia.
· India joined ASEM in January 2007 and has taken part in four earlier summits. This year is unique for ASEM as it celebrates 20 years of its establishment.
Maharashtra government classifies dengue as notified disease:
· The Maharashtra government has classified dengue as a 'notified disease' which will allow officials to enter residential premises to check for breeding of larvae, state Public Health Minister Deepak Sawant said.
· The state government will distribute 1.10 lakh mosquito nets and has provided clinical management training to nearly 2,800 health workers to deal with the disease, Sawant added.
Union Cabinet approves disinvestment of 15% in National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC):
· The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the disinvestment of 15% paid up equity of National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC).
· At present, Union Government holds 90 percent shareholding of the corporation (i.e. 54 crore share).
· This disinvestment would help the government to earn about 1706 crore rupees.

· The Union Cabinet approved the revival of defunct Fertilizer Units in Gorakhpur, Sindri and Barauni. The units to be revived includes
ü Sindri (Jharkhand) and Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) of Fertilizer Corporation India Limited (FCIL)
ü Barauni (Bihar) unit of Hindustan Fertilizers Corporation Limited (HFCL)
Union Cabinet approves the Revised Cost Estimate of Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan:
· The Union Cabinet has given its approval for Revised Cost Estimate (RCE) of 7290.62 crore rupees for the ongoing 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project (HEP) in Bhutan.
· The Hydroelectric project seeks to provide surplus power to India and thus augment power availability in the country.
· The approval of RCE would enable project works to proceed smoothly without interruption and the total cost escalation for the project after RCE at this stage is 3512.82 crore rupees.
INS India, base depot ship of Indian Navy at New Delhi celebrates Platinum Jubilee:
· INS India, the base depot ship of Indian Navy at New Delhi celebrated its 75th anniversary (Platinum Jubilee).
· As a run up to celebrate this grand occasion, a series of events were organised. A Health Run and a Dream Walk was organised. A blood donation camp was also organised.
India to extend e-visas to 36 more countries:
· Union Tourism Ministry is planning to extend its electronic visa (e-visa) service to 36 more countries including Italy, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
· As per reports, the proposal has been forwarded to the Home Ministry for approval.
· If the proposal gets accepted, citizens of 186 countries will be able to get an online visa to travel to India.
Join PM SurakshaBimaYojana, SmritiIrani Tells Textile Industry:
· Union Textile Minister SmritiIrani appealed to textile industry to join ‘PradhanMantriSurakshaBimaYojana’ (PMSBY) for the benefit of workers.
· The PMSBY will benefit garment workers immensely, as largest number of people work in the textile sector in the country after agriculture.
e-Aadhaar valid ID to get new mobile connections:
· The Department of Telecom clarified that the downloaded version of the Unique Identification Authority of India card or e-Aadhaar is a valid identity proof for getting new mobile connections.
· This comes after telecom service providers requested the Telecom Department to validate the use of e-Aadhaar for new mobile connections.
Rajasthan is most attractive solar project destination in India, proves NTPC auction:
· Rajasthan confirmed its position as the most attractive solar project destination in the country with the latest NTPC auction in the desert state, which saw the winning bids falling to Rs 4.35-4.36 per kwH.

Cabinet allows ITI to transfer shares to SNIF:
· The Cabinet agreed to a proposal for transfer of shares by communications equipment manufacturer Indian Telephone Industries (ITI), to Special National Investment Fund to meet SEBI’s minimum public shareholding requirement, a release stated.
· The government, with 90% stake in the company, had approved a proposal in 2014 to offer assistance of ₹4156.79 crore for the company's revival.
Postal Department to deliver river water at the doorstep:
· The Department of Posts and Telegraph in Andhra Pradesh will deliver holy water ,Pushkarajalam, of Krishna River in a bottle to facilitate the devotees who cannot make it possible to attend the approaching Krishna Pushkaralu.
· It will be delivered in a 500 ml bottle for 30 rupees only on pre-booking basis at the nearer post offices in the city.

Premier arrives in Mongolia for official visit, Asia-Europe summit:
· Premier Li Keqiang arrived in Ulaanbaatar for an official visit to Mongolia and the 11th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit.
· This is his first trip to the landlocked Asian country since he took office as Premier in 2013, and the first official visit by a Chinese premier to the country in six years.

Peru declares Zika emergency across northern half of the country:
· Peru has declared Zika a health emergency across the northern half of the country after confirming that 102 people have been infected with the virus.
· The 90-day emergency was announced, which said the Health Ministry and local authorities were working to prevent the spread of the disease.
· The disesase is principally transmitted by mosquitos. The cases detected so far include 34 pregnant women.
China has no historic rights over South China Sea: Hague Tribunal
· The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in Hague, the Netherlands has rejected China’s claims to economic rights across large swathes of South China Sea.
· Ruling in this regard was given by a five-member tribunal appointed by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in Hague in a case brought by the Philippines.
· The ruling came from an arbitration tribunal under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) which both China and Philippines have signed. The ruling is binding but the tribunal has no powers for enforcement.

Theresa May appointed Prime Minister of United Kingdom:
· Queen Elizabeth-II appointed Theresa May as the 76th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK).
· She was appointed as prime minister following her election as the leader of Britain's ruling Conservative Party.
· With this appointment, she became the second women to assume the office of Prime Minister of the UK.
· The first women prime minister was Margaret Thatcher who was in the office of PM from 1979 to 1990.
Ashok Patnaik appointed as CEO of NATGRID:
· The Union Government appointed Ashok Patnaik as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID), one of the most ambitious intelligence projects that failed to take off during United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule.
· Patnaik is currently serving as Additional Director in the Intelligence Bureau and he will continue to hold this post till his superannuation in 2018.
· Patnaik is a 1983-batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre.
NabamTuki takes charge as Arunachal Pradesh CM:
· Congress leader NabamTuki took charge as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh at Arunachal Bhavan in New Delhi.
· The CM’s office in Arunachal Pradesh was also informed about the development via e-mail.
· The apex court had reinstated the Tuki-led government in the state and quashed the Governor's order to impose President’s Rule.
Boris Johnson appointed Britain’s foreign minister:
· Boris Johnson, the former London mayor and “Leave” campaign figurehead in Britain’s EU referendum, was appointed foreign secretary in new Prime Minister Theresa May’s government.
Xiaomi names ex-Snapdeal executive Raghu Reddy as online sales head for India:
· Raghu Reddy, senior director at Snapdeal, heading the mobile and tablet business has joined Xiaomi as head of online sales.
· Xiaomi India head Manu Jain tweeted about Reddy joining the Chinese smartphone maker.

SEBI notifies tighter transfer norms for P-Notes:
· The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has issued new norms restricting the transfer of Participatory Notes (P-Notes).
· Under this, these offshore instruments can be transferred only to Sebi-authorised entities, provided a prior consent of the issuing foreign investor is obtained.
· P-Notes are issued for overseas entities seeking to invest in the Indian market without getting registered.
UBS remains world's biggest private bank:
· Switzerland-based UBS retained its position as the world’s biggest private bank in 2015, a study by wealth management researcher Scorpio Partnership has stated.
· UBS had $1,737.5 billion managed assets by the end of 2015, nearly $300 billion more than the second-placed Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

· Mumbai’s civic body has renamed a city square near Hiranandani Garden in suburban Powai to JyotirmoyDeyChowk. This is an effort to recognise the contribution of veteran crime reporter JyotirmoyDey.
· Mumbai Mayor SnehalAmbekar unveiled the plaque for 'J DeyChowk' just across the road where the noted journalist was shot dead in 2011. Ms.Ambekar described Dey as a fearless journalist whose habit was to report the truth.
· Also present on the occasion, Dey's wife Shubha recalled her husband as an exemplary human being who would go out of his way to help others.
· Dey often wrote on Mumbai underworld's activities and gang-wars. He worked for leading publications like Mid-Day and Hindustan Times.

Talgo becomes India's fastest train at 180 km/hr:
· Spanish-made Talgo train has become the fastest train in India after clocking a speed of 180 km/hour and covering 84 km in 38 minutes during a trial run on the Mathura-Palwal route.
· It has broken the record of Gatimaan Express at 160 km/hour. Talgo comprises nine lightweight coaches and aims to connect Delhi and Mumbai within 12 hours.
Quikr launches on-demand beauty service:
· Online classifieds portal Quikr has launched an on-demand beauty service called ‘AtHomeDiva’ within its category of QuikrServices.
· The launch follows Quikr’s recent acquisition of in-home beauty service provider, Salosa in May.
· AtHomeDiva includes services like skincare, bodycare, haircare, make-up and special beauty packages. It is currently available on Quikr app and website.
Excise duty norms on gold jewellery relaxed:
· The Cabinet relaxed the excise duty rules on gold jewellery. The new rules exempt the jewellery manufacturers having an annual turnover up to Rs.15 crore from the excise duty, as against the previous Rs.12 crore limit.
· This comes after the jewellers protested over the imposition of 1% excise duty on gold jewellery, as proposed in the budget.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY:
Researchers develop 1st underwater microscope:
· Researchers at the University of California, San Diego, have crafted the Benthic Underwater Microscope, which they claim is the first undersea microscope that can study "millimeter-scale" activity.
· It combines a water-friendly computer with an imaging system which revolves around two lenses that can see shapes in 3D. The setup is used with a combination of LED lights and fluorescence imaging.
Kendrapara sheep gets registered breed status:
· The National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) formally accorded registered breed status on Kendrapara sheep.
· As per the research of the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development (FARD) Department and researchers of Odisha Livestock Resources Development Society and College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry of OUAT, the Kendrapara sheep carries a rare gene mutation during a year-long research.
· The genetically rare status will help to boost conservation effort to protect the sheep. Earlier, Odisha’s two buffalo and four cattle breeds were also registered at national level by NBAGR.
Ex-Google engineer launches blockchain-based system for banks:
· A former Google engineer, whose speech recognition software is used in more than a billion Android smartphones, has launched a company that uses block chain technology to build a new operating system for banks.
· Paul Taylor, a Cambridge University academic with an expertise in artificial intelligence, speech synthesis and machine learning, started working on the system, called Vault OS, two years ago in a basement in London’s Shoreditch district, known for being a tech start-up hub
Dallas Cowboys world's most valuable sports team:
· Valued at $4 billion, NFL team Dallas Cowboys is the most expensive sports team in the world, according to Forbes' Most Valuable Sports Teams Of 2016.
· Spanish football clubs Real Madrid and FC Barcelona were placed second and third respectively. This is the first time that a non-football club has topped the list as the most valuable team since 2011.

· The 41st All India Electricity Board Kabaddi tournament begansat Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu.
· Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Director M Pandi will inaugurate the tournament according to Trichy region Chief Engineer M Valarmathy.
· More than 15 teams from Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana will be competing in the four day tournament according to senior sports officer K R Sivakumar.
