Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Fire Department early Sunday evening just after five o’clock was called a fire that destroyed an unoccupied trailer house at 1517 Highway 281 North.
JFD Lt. Sheldon Mohr says six units of the City Fire Department and 20 fire fighters were on the scene for about two hours.
The Jamestown Rural Fire Department was also called to the scene to provide more water to the Jamestown Fire Department due to the lack of fire hydrants.
No injuries reported.
The cause was officially listed as undetermined.
Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police is asking the public for any information in connection with items reported stolen Friday last afternoon from three cars belonging to members of the Jamestown High School track team.
Lt. Robert Opp says, between $3,000 and $4,000 worth of items were taken, including musical instruments, cellphones and tablet computers, while running the White Cloud trail as part of track practice, as the students left their unlocked cars parked near the North Dakota State Hospital.
The investigation is continuing. If anyone has information they are asked to call Jamestown Police at 701-252-1000.
Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Tourism Grant/Executive Advisory Board, met Friday at the CSi Technology Center at Historic Franklin School.
The Board reviewed grant requests from Jamestown Drag Racing, and James River Rodeo.
The board unanimously approved the James River Rodeo grant request in the amount of $3,500 to promote the annual event, at the Stutsman County Fairground. Spokesman Marlyn Bertich said grant fund will be used in the areas of programs, advertising and the sound system, during the Stutsman County Fair, July 4,5, 2015.
Other major funding sources were listed as ad sales for $18,000 and gate sales of $6,000 to $7,000, with the total cost of the program at $60,000.
He noted that rodeo attendees spend at least one night at Jamestown motels, and eat at local restaurants. Last year there were 760 contestants competing.

The board also unanimously approved the request from Jamestown Drag Racing Association, in conjunction with this year’s drag races at Jamestown Regional Airport to be held July 18,19, 2015.
The request is for $6,000 for advertising expenses and $1,500 for a computer upgrade for the timing system.
Other sources for funding include: local business sponsors for poster ads, in the amount of $13,093, gate admission fees are estimated at $8,607, and racer entry fees at $11,345 with the total program cost of $39,000.
JDRA Race Director, Glen Christianson said th Drag Racing Association is applying for a non-profit status to raise funds, to establish their own drag strip outside city limits. A committee evaluating locations has contacted the Buffalo City Gun Club, the Off-Roaders Club, Moto-Cross, City Pistol Range, and the Rodeo Club, asking for their opinion. All clubs have come on board with JDRA with pursuing a location, indicating that a drag strip there would benefit everyone in that location.
At the outset of the meeting, it was noted that Jamestown Tourism’s, Office Manager/Digital Marketing Strategist, Cassie Theuer has resigned, after five years in the position, accepting a position with Lord of Life Church in Bismarck, with the children and music ministries.
She noted that the past two years in tourism has been “exciting.”
Jamestown Tourism Director, Searle Swedlund pointed out that Cassie’s job description consists of a 37 page manual, adding that it is no small task to handle her responsibilities.
He added that Cassie brought creativity to the position, and brought systems together, including the digital component.
Board member Beth Dewald said that Cassie handled the transition well when former Tourism Director, Nina Sneider retired, and Swedlund became Tourism Director.
Board Chairperson, Mitzi Hager said Cassie was knowledgable in her position.
All board members in attendance said that she will be missed.
The board presented Cassie with a clock, with the inscription, “In Recognition of Five Years of Service.” The board also gave her a gift certificate to a Bismarck restaurant.
Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Council’s Finance and Legal Committee will review for recommendation, the date and time for a Special Election asking voters if they want to approve a one percent City Sales Tax to support the proposed construction and operation of the Two Rivers Athletic center for June 2, 2015.

Valley City (CSi) Barnes County Sheriff, Randy McClaflin informs residents that several people have reported that the IRS phone scam has occurred in Barnes County.
McClaflin says the scam artist is threatening and attempts to gain personal financial information using the threats.
McClaflin said the IRS does not operate this way and this is a scam. displayed on their incoming calls from the scam artist is 1-866-438-0207.
McClaflin adds the best advice to people is to or hang up immediately if someone claims to be from the IRS.
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem has also reminded North Dakota residents that the IRS does not notify people of a potential problem by leaving a threatening phone message.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man who authorities suspect created and cashed fake checks is now in custody.
The 47-year-old Bismarck man was arrested after authorities searched for him for two weeks.
Bismarck Police began looking for the man after he handed a fake check to a drive-thru bank teller of Northland Financial. The teller became suspicious of the check, and as the teller was trying to figure out whether the check was authentic, the man drove away, leaving the fake check and his ID behind.
The man, who has not been formally charged, is also accused of driving a stolen vehicle. He is being held at the Burleigh County Detention Center.
The man’s wife, who authorities accuse of harboring a criminal, is also in custody.
RICHARDTON, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say one person was killed and two others were injured following a crash on Interstate 94 near Richardton.
The North Dakota State Highway Patrol says a 21-year-old man from Duncanville, Texas, was driving east on the highway early Sunday morning when his vehicle rear-ended a semitrailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passengers, a 19-year-old Florida man and a 20-year-old Oregon man, were taken to a local hospital. Their conditions were immediately known early Monday.
The Highway Patrol says two additional crashes, including a rollover, were caused by the initial accident. No other injuries were reported.
Eastbound lanes on I-94 were closed for more than 12 hours following the incident.
Investigators believe icy road conditions may have contributed to the fatal crash.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Senate doesn’t want lawmakers setting tuition rates at the state’s 11 colleges and universities.
The Senate voted 39-6 to kill the House bill Friday. Representatives approved the bill 59-31 in January.
Supporters say North Dakota’s Legislature is blamed for soaring tuition costs so it may as well set them.
Opponents say tuition is better left to the state Board of Higher Education.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A federal medical center in Texas has been given more time to conduct a mental health exam on a woman accused of leaving her 2- and 4-year-old daughters to die in northwestern North Dakota.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons facility in Fort Worth, Texas, asked Judge Dan Hovland for 45 days rather than 30 to examine Michelle Wounded Face, and Hovland granted the request.
The 24-year-old Wounded Face is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in South Dakota who has been living on the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota. She’s accused of abandoning her daughters in a car for more than three hours on Jan. 3, in bitter cold. They survived.
Assistant Federal Public Defender Ryan Costello has said Wounded Face will rely on an insanity defense.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A man is accused of using force and threats in a sexual assault on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.
Jason Meyers is charged in federal court with three counts, including aggravated sexual abuse by threat of death or serious bodily injury. He has pleaded not guilty.
Authorities say Meyers also threatened the victim about reporting the Dec. 10 incident.
Meyers was arrested last month in Montana. He was ordered to remain behind bars until trial, which is scheduled for May 19 in Bismarck.
A federal public defender could not be reached for comment.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The state Capitol building is becoming a North Dakota products shopping mall for a day.
Today is the annual Pride of Dakota Day at the Capitol in Bismarck. Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says nearly 30 Pride of Dakota companies will be sampling and selling food, books, clothing, art and more.
There also is a special Pride of Dakota Lunch in the Capitol Cafe.
The Agriculture Department’s Pride of Dakota branding program has more than 500 member companies. It’s celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Two of the school-record six North Dakota State University wrestlers who competed at the 2015 NCAA Championships finished in the Top 10 of their weight class.
Bison 184-pounder Hayden Zillmer placed sixth and 174-pounder Kurtis Julson finished eighth as each earned All-American honors over the weekend in St. Louis.
It is the first time in NDSU wrestling program history that the Bison have had two NCAA Division I All-Americans in the same year.
NDSU finished 23rd in the team standings.
UNDATED (AP) – Minnesota State has received the top seed for the NCAA men’s hockey tournament, followed by North Dakota, Boston University and Miami of Ohio as the other No. 1 seeds in their respective regions.
The NCAA unveiled Sunday the 16-team field, which included six teams from the eight-team National Collegiate Hockey Conference and just one from the Big Ten.
Minnesota State won the Western Collegiate Hockey Association tournament and regular-season title to finish 29-7-3 and make the NCAA tournament for a third straight year.
UND will play Quinnipiac on Friday night in Fargo. Michigan Tech and St. Cloud State will play the other regional semifinal.
LAS VEGAS (AP) Former Jamestown resident, and UFC bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey will return to the octagon against Brazil’s Bethe Correia at UFC 190 on Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 1.
UFC President Dana White announced the matchup Friday.
Rousey (11-0) finished her fifth title defense in 14 seconds last month, defeating Cat Zingano with an armbar at UFC 184 in Los Angeles.
The fastest submission victory in UFC history was the latest in a string of impressive stoppages for Rousey. She is the only 135-pound women’s champion in the promotion’s history and one of the biggest stars in mixed martial arts.
Correia (9-0) will have a vociferous home crowd behind her at Rio’s HSBC Arena. Although she has victories over two of Rousey’s training partners, Correia will be a heavy underdog in the bout.
DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) – The Devils Lake City Commission has committed up to $100,000 to improve fishing access to Devils Lake.
Improvements will be made at the Channel A, Henegar Landing and East Ditch recreation areas. The upgrades will range from boat ramp work to parking lots to playground equipment.
The city also will provide several thousands of dollars’ worth of in-kind work for the projects. Work could begin as early as this summer.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Megan Wolfe scored early and Amanda Leveille made 19 saves to lead Minnesota to a 4-1 victory over Harvard yesterday for the third women’s hockey championship in four seasons for the Gophers. Hannah Brandt, Megan Lorence and Rachael Bona had goals in the third period for Minnesota.

UNDATED (AP) – Second seeds Virginia and Kansas have been bounced from the NCAA tournament, both falling to No. 7 seeds.
The Cavaliers were the first to go as Travis Trice poured in 23 points to lead Michigan State to a 60-54 victory. Branden Dawson added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Spartans, who also knocked out Virginia in last year’s regional semifinals.
Tom Izzo’s (IH’-zohz) team is in the Sweet 16 for the seventh time in eight seasons and will play Oklahoma in Syracuse on Friday.
Virginia was dispatched one day after top seed Villanova was ousted from the East Regional. It’s the first time in 11 years the top two seeds from the same region have been eliminated before the Sweet 16.
Wichita State won the battle of Kansas as Tekele Cotton scored a team-high 19 points in the Shockers’ 78-65 win over the Jayhawks. Fred VanVleet finished with 17 points and Evan Wessel hit four treys in adding 12 points.
Wichita trailed by eight midway through the first half before advancing to the Midwest Region semifinal against third-seeded Notre Dame in Cleveland.

– Top seed Duke has reached the semifinals of the South Region by clobbering No. 8 San Diego State 68-49. Jahlil Okafor (jah-LIHL’ OH’-kuh-for) scored 18 of his 26 points while the Blue Devils were building a 37-24 halftime lead. Fellow freshman Justise Winslow added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Blue Devils, who shot 55 percent in setting up a regional semifinal meeting with No. 5 Utah.
– Wisconsin has a matchup with North Carolina in the Los Angeles regional semifinals after Sam Dekker scored 17 points and Frank Kaminsky chipped in 16 to lead the top-seeded Badgers past No. 8 Oregon, 72-65. (AP) – Brad Keselowski roared past Kurt Busch on the final lap to win the Sprint Cup race at Auto Club Speedway in California, capitalizing on two late restarts to a green-white-checkered finish. Kevin Harvick finished second to extend his remarkable streak of top-two Sprint Cup finishes to eight races dating to last season. Harvick fell just short of sweeping the three West Coast races.

BAY HILL, Fla. (AP) – Matt Every has successfully defended his Arnold Palmer Invitational crown by sinking an 18-foot birdie putt on 18 to beat Henrik Stenson at Bay Hill. Every came from three shots behind Sunday with a 6-under 66 for a 13-under total. Stenson had the lead heading into the round and owned a one-shot advantage with four holes to play before missing a 20-foot putt that would have forced a playoff.
Marco Dawson has claimed his first Champions Tour title, capturing the Tucson Conquistadores Classic.
The 51-year-old Dawson shot a 3-under 69 to finish at 13-under 203 in the first-year event at Tucson National. He had been winless in his first 20 starts on the Tour and never came away with a victory in 412 PGA starts.
Bart Bryant had a 70 to finish second for the second straight event.
PHOENIX (AP) – Hyo Joo Kim birdied five of the last eight holes beat Stacy Lewis in the JTBC Founders Cup.
The 19-year-old Kim closed with a 5-under 67, holing a 10-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th to beat Lewis by three strokes for her second LPGA Tour title.
The third-ranked Lewis shot a 68.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) – Texas Sen. Ted Cruz tipped his hand in a tweet just after midnight, declaring himself to be a candidate for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. He’ll make a formal announcement today at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, in an effort to claim the important GOP base of cultural conservatives. It’s expected he’ll soon be joined in the race by Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and two Senate colleagues, Kentucky’s Rand Paul and Florida’s Marco Rubio.
WASHINGTON (AP) – The Supreme Court hears oral arguments on two cases today. One is whether the Americans With Disabilities Act requires police to take special precautions when trying to arrest armed and violent suspects who are mentally ill. The other is a free speech challenge involving Texas’ refusal to issue license plates with the Confederate battle flag, which some consider offensive.
TOKYO (AP) – Reports of damaged coral are being used as the bases for an order from the governor of the southern Japanese island of Okinawa that a Defense Ministry branch suspend work at the relocation site for a key U.S. military air base. Most Okinawans want the base gone completely from the island. Gov. Takeshi Onaga defeated a predecessor who had approved the base plan.
LONDON (AP) – The parents of a critically ill British boy are claiming a miracle recovery during their time as fugitives after removing the youth from a hospital in England that declined to provide a cancer treatment. Brett King tells The Sun newspaper that the recovery of the 5-year-old justifies the family’s decision to seek an innovative treatment in the Czech Republic, despite an international manhunt.
WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama is focusing on attracting more science, technology, engineering and math students through private-sector efforts. At the White House Science Fair today, Obama will announce more than $240 million in pledges to boost the study of those fields, known as STEM. This year’s fair is focused on diversity.
