Valley City (CSi) Bob, the triceratops dinosaur may be history, in Valley City, unless dollars are found to keep in at the Barnes County Museum in Valley City.

Bob is one of the largest and most complete triceratops found to date, and his 65-million-year-old bones have been on display at the Barnes County Historical Society since June of 2014.

The dinosaur was found in the far southwestern part of the state in Bowman County on the Craig and Bobbi Egeland ranch, near the South Dakota border. Fossils in that area are 65 million to 70 million years old, in the Late Cretaceous period.

Curator, Wes Anderson says unless the museum can raise $1.4 million to buy Bob from the people who excavated and preserved him, Bob will be leaving the museum. He points out that most dinosaur skeletons in museums are replica castings or assemblages of fossils from several animals.

Hell Creek Relics, is operated by Alan Komrosky of Valley City.

He says, it took 11 years and 21,000 man-hours of painstaking work to free Bob from the rock where his bones were found in 2003, plus a steel frame had to be built to mount the skeleton.

Bob’s price tag is $1.4 million.

The investors want their cash including the owners of the land where Bob was found and Komrosky has to get money to get back into the field and search for more fossils.

Bob can be seen on the Hell Creek Relics website www.hellcreekrelicsvc.com

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) – Backers of a proposed project in North Dakota that would turn sugar beets into ethanol are holding educational meetings in three cities this week.

The the Green Vision Group meetings are today in Valley City and Jamestown and Thursday in Carrington.

Beets used to produce biofuel are different from the sugar beets grown for human consumption. Industrial beets are genetically bred specifically for the making of renewable fuels and can be grown just about anywhere in the U.S.

The refinery process separates sugar from the beets in the form of juice, which is fermented and distilled into alcohol.

The Green Vision Group has been working on the project for years and is considering five potential sites for a plant.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Legislature has passed a bill to exempt pork and dairy operations from the state’s eight-decades-old anti-corporate farming law.

North Dakota’s House approved the measure 56-37 on Monday. The measure was already approved by the Senate.

The so-called “ham-and-cheese” bill is one of the most contentious non-oil related bills considered by lawmakers this session.

Supporters say it’s intended to revitalize dairy and swine farms after years of decline. Opponents believe the anti-corporate farming law blocks unfair competition from big, out-of-state corporations.

Federal agriculture data show the number of dairy farms in North Dakota has decreased from about 350 in 2002 to 91.

Data show swine numbers have also declined from about 280,000 in 1995 to about 139,000 in 2014.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Board of Higher Education wants discussions on the hiring and firing of a university system chancellor to be held in secret.

The board is pushing the measure that would hold such discussions in executive session unless the chancellor or candidate being considered asks for the discussion to be public.

The Senate already has approved the bill.

Interim Chancellor Larry Skogen told the House Education Committee on Monday that holding a secret meeting allows board members to be more candid in discussing evaluations of the chancellor.

North Dakota Newspaper Association attorney Jack McDonald says the public should not be left out of the process.

The committee took no immediate action on the bill. The full House will consider it later.

WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A California man is facing a $285 ticket after he was clocked at 132 mph on Interstate 94 near West Fargo.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol arrested the 29-year-old man about 9:10 a.m. Monday, following a report of a reckless driver who was speeding and cutting off other motorists.

The speed limit on the interstate is 75 mph.

The man was driving a 2003 Mercedes Benz E320. He was cited for speeding and arrested for misdemeanor reckless driving.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A 40-year-old Bismarck woman is facing a felony reckless endangerment charge after police say she nearly struck her husband with a vehicle.

Kerena Ann Meyers made her initial court appearance Monday. A judge set a $1,500 cash bond for Meyers and ordered her not to have any contact with her husband.

Bismarck Police Sgt. Mark Buschena says officers responded to a domestic disturbance report Friday night. He says Meyers and her husband were arguing when she got into a vehicle, drove past her husband and sideswiped the vehicle he was leaning against.

Buschena says a small amount of marijuana was found inside Meyers’ hat during her arrest.  She also has been charged with possession of marijuana.

Online court records don’t indicate an attorney for Meyers.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A temporary pipeline has been installed to bring water to people in Divide and Burke counties.

Residents of communities including Crosby, Fortuna, Noonan and Columbus were told over the weekend to boil tap water or use bottled water after a break in a Western Area Water Supply Authority pipeline underneath a wetland. About 2,000 people were affected.

A  temporary line has been put in place until permanent repairs can be made.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota lawmakers are considering legislation that would make publishing or distributing so-called “revenge porn” a crime.

Revenge porn is the term used to describe the practice of posting a nude or sexually explicit photo or video of someone on the Internet without their consent.

Democratic Senate Minority leader Mac Schneider of Grand Forks is the bill’s primary sponsor.

The legislation would make it a misdemeanor to post sexually explicit photos or video of a person online. The penalty is up to one year in jail and a $3,000 fine.

The Senate already has approved the legislation. The House Judiciary Committee is slated to take testimony on the bill Tuesday.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s House has killed a resolution that would have allowed voters to decide if a panel is needed to investigate alleged acts of wrongdoing by politicians. The resolution would have let voters decide whether the state Constitution should be changed to form an ethics panel. Opponents have argued that an ethics commission isn’t required because the Legislature already follows high standards of conduct.
