Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Area Grief Support Team is offering a grief support group for anyone who is grieving the loss of someone important to them, whether the loss is recent or from years past. The group will meet once a week at 7:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 424 1st Avenue S, Jamestown, beginning on Thursday, April 9th and will run for 6 weeks.
In his book, Understanding Your Grief, internationally recognized expert in the field of loss and grief, Dr. Alan Wolfelt states, “You can benefit from a connectedness that comes from people who have also had a death in their lives. Support groups, where people come together and share the common bond of experience, can be invaluable in helping you and your grief and supporting your need to mourn long after the event of the death”
In our fast paced society, people who have had a significant loss are often expected to be ‘over it’ in a matter of a few weeks. They may even expect this of themselves. In reality, it may take years for someone to work through his or her grief. The support group experience helps individuals to understand and express grief in their own unique way and on their own unique timetable.
The group is free of charge, however, participants are asked to register to ensure that enough materials are available. For more information, or to register, please call Charlotte at 952-9358 or 320-3297 or Kathy at 952-8001 or 659-8001.
Jamestown (CSi) The NDSU Stutsman County Extension Service Office is now located at 502 10th Avenue Southeast in Jamestown.
On Thursday’s Wayne Byers Show CSi Cable 2 Agent, Christina Rittebach said the office moved from its former location at First Street East to the former Senior Center location, next to the Stutsman County Library.
She added that the move took place on February 21st, and is fully operational.
The former location will be occupied by Stutsman County Social Services which is expanding from the first floor location.
On our show Christina pointed out upcoming events held in conjunction with the Extension Service.
“Nourishing Boomers and Beyond,” is designed for those 50 and older, concerning health and wellness topics. The presentations are held each month through August this year. The next is set for March 17th at 5:30-p.m.,at the Extension Service location.
“Spring Fever” a garden forum is being held March 23, 24, 30, & 31 from 6:30-pm to 8:30-pm with live streaming video from Fargo, also at the Stutsman County Extension Service office.
“4-H Communications Arts Contest,” will be presented and judged on April 19, with the winner going to regional competition, and that winner going on to competition at the State Fair in Minot this year.
The “Energy Beet Educational” meeting is set at several locations around the state.
In the area presentations will be made:
In Valley City – Tuesday, March 17, 9 to 11 a.m., at the Eagles Club
In Jamestown – Tuesday, March 17, 3 to 5 p.m., at the Stutsman County Extension Service office
In Carrington Thursday, March 19, 9 to 11 a.m., Carrington Research Extension Center.
A drawing for an iPad Air 2 will be held at each of the five state locations. Refreshments will be provided.
Farmers attending the meetings on energy beet production and economics will be surveyed about the returns they need to plant the crop and their preferences in how the crop will be harvested and contracted. A paper survey will be conducted following the educational portion of the meeting.
Jamestown (CSi) As CHS officials continue to look at starting construction this summer on its planned $3 billion nitrogen fertilizer plant at Spiritwood, questions remain on the project,
That includes establishing a water supply and a final design plan and a construction schedule.
The plant will reportedly use 4,000 to 5,000 gallons of water per minute.
A water plan and a water reuse facility near Spiritwood are under review by the North Dakota State Water Commission, and could, if approved, provide enough water for the planned CHS nitrogen fertilizer plant.
Additional capacity for future projects, could also benefit.
The State Water Commission’s Jon Patch, says, a water plan option would draw water from the Jamestown and Spiritwood aquifers based on the levels of the aquifers.
The Jamestown Aquifer runs under the James River and James River Valley and is quite shallow. Its levels vary with the changes in river flows. The Spiritwood Aquifer is a larger and deeper aquifer with a larger supply of water.
It might also be supplemented by Missouri River water delivered by pipeline.
Stutsman Rural Water District is applying for permits to draw water from the Spiritwood and Jamestown aquifers to supplement the greywater.
A regional water reuse facility would take in a significant amount of wastewater from Cargill Malt for about one third of the water supply with about two thirds coming from groundwater.
The reuse facility would take in greywater from Cargill Malt, Dakota Spirit AgEnergy and Great River Energy’s Spiritwood Station.
Greywater is treated wastewater and is commonly allowed to flow into the James River.
Construction would be timed so that completion of the water reuse plant would coincide with the completion of the CHS nitrogen fertilizer plant.
WING, N.D. (AP) – A Wing woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of two gravel roads north of Bismarck. The Highway Patrol says the 38-year-old woman was driving a pickup truck that failed to yield to another pickup truck. The vehicles collided about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, and the woman’s pickup rolled in the ditch. The driver and a passenger in the other truck were taken to a Bismarck hospital. Both men are from Wilton. Authorities did not immediately identify any of the people involved.
WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) – The criminal case against a Colorado man accused having pipe bombs and guns in North Dakota’s oil patch has been moved to federal court. Dustin Swartz is charged with possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon and unlawful possession of unregistered firearm. Swartz was arrested following a report of a man carrying guns and knives in a Watford City trailer home park.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say a person looking for a dog caused a pileup on an Interstate 94 bridge between Bismarck and Mandan.
Six vehicles were involved in the Thursday evening incident on the Grant Marsh Bridge over the Missouri River. Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremiah Bohn says there were no serious injuries.
Bohn says a driver stopped on the bridge to look for a dog, causing a four-car chain-reaction crash in the westbound lanes and a crash in the eastbound lanes. Traffic was backed up for about an hour before the scene could be cleared.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A woman involved in a vehicle chase and shooting in Minot two years ago has been sentenced to eight years in prison. 21-year-old Kayla Wright pleaded guilty this week to robbery and drug charges.
BISMARCK, N .D. (AP) – The North Dakota Legislature is set to decide whether to exempt dairy and swine operations from the state’s eight decades-old anti-corporate farming law.
The bill intrduced by District 29 (R) Senator, Terry Wanzek, is slated for debate in the House on Friday. It is one of the most contentious before the Legislature this session.
Supporters of the bill say will help save dying dairy and declining swine industries in the state. Opponents say the current law blocks unfair competition from big, out-of-state corporations.
The Senate in February voted 27-18 to approve the legislation. The House Agriculture Committee has given the measure a “do pass” recommendation.
North Dakota’s anti-corporate farming law dates back to 1932. It now allows corporations with as many as 15 shareholders to own farms or ranches, as long as the shareholders are related.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – State health officials say radioactive oil field waste has been illegally dumped in western North Dakota.
Officials on Thursday said up to 100 filter socks were found in a property in within the city limits of Williston. The socks are the nets that strain liquids in the oil production process.
Scott Radig with the Division of Waste Management says the cleanup is scheduled to begin Friday.
Radig says the waste was found in a facility used by Green Diamond Environmental Trucking Services, LLC. He says the company has told state investigators that another corporation dropped the socks at the site.
The trucking company has hired a contractor for the cleanup.
The socks are banned for disposal in North Dakota. They’re supposed to be hauled to certified facilities in other states.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s oil production slipped 3 percent in January from record production set a month earlier. Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms said Thursday’s rig count of 111 was the lowest in nearly five years.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Devils Lake native Mary Wakefield has been named acting deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The position makes Wakefield second in command at the federal agency that oversees health care, health research, disease control, children and families, and many other divisions.
Wakefield had served as administrator of the department’s Health Resources and Services Administration since February 2009. She also has served as an administrator at the University of North Dakota medical school and as chief of staff for former U.S. Sens. Kent Conrad and Quentin Burdick.
Current U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says Wakefield is a leader in improving rural health care and will bring “North Dakota sensibility” to the secretary’s office.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A group of Minot residents has formed to push a proposed $88 million aquatic and recreation center.
The group calling itself Citizens for Minot’s Future supports a tax system amendment to pay for the 450,000-square foot center. Residents would pay higher city sales taxes but lower property taxes. A public vote is scheduled April 21.
Group spokeswoman Tawnya Bernsdorf says the project would improve the city’s quality of life and provide much-needed property tax relief.

BISON…
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota State is holding a party for fans to watch the NCAA men’s basketball tournament selection show.
The Bison are playing in the premier college sporting event for the second year in a row. They defeated South Dakota State earlier this week to win the Summit League tournament.
NDSU upset Oklahoma in the first round of last year’s NCAA tourney.
The eight host cities for this year’s opening round are Jacksonville, Florida; Louisville, Kentucky; Pittsburgh; Portland, Oregon; Charlotte, North Carolina; Columbus, Ohio; Omaha, Nebraska; and Seattle.
The party is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Fargodome. Players will sign autographs for the first hour and door prizes will be given throughout the event.
The matchups in the 68-team field will be announced on CBS starting at 5 p.m.
NFL…
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – The Philadelphia Eagles have found a pretty good replacement for LeSean McCoy.
All-Pro running back DeMarco Murray has agreed to a five-year package with the Eagles. A person familiar with the contract says Murray’s deal was valued at $42 million, with $21 million guaranteed. He turned down a four-year, $16 million offer from the Cowboys last fall.
Murray helped the Cowboys win the NFC East title last season while rushing for a franchise-record 1,845 yards.
GOLF…
PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) – Brian Davis is the leader heading into the second round of the PGA’s Valspar Championship in Florida, one shot ahead of Sean O’Hair and Ricky Barnes. Davis closed his 6-under-par 65 round with a chip-in from 25 feet on the ninth green. Barnes was tied for the lead until he three-putted the par-3 17th from 35 feet and missed a 12-foot birdie putt on the last hole.
In world and national news….
PHOENIX (AP) – The hospital at the epicenter of criticism of the Veterans’ Administration over the treatment of patients will host President Barack Obama today as he meets with veterans, VA employees, veterans’ groups and elected officials. Obama will get a first-hand status report on the health system’s progress and its lingering needs.
KIEV, Ukraine (AP) – Russia seems likely to resist a formal effort by Ukraine to get United Nations backing for a peacekeeping mission in the restive east. Government and Russian-backed separatist forces oppose one another there though a cease-fire is in place. A mission would need backing from all five permanent members of the Security Council, including Russia, which has backed the rebels.
SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (AP) – The United States isn’t making any firm commitment yet to unlock hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid for Egypt as Cairo tries to attract greater foreign investment and distance itself from the turmoil triggered after Hosni Mubarak’s ouster several years ago. Secretary of State John Kerry delivered words of encouragement today, but any cash commitments would require a national security waiver. The administration remains undecided about that.
LONDON (AP) – Swedish prosecutors are indicating a softening of their position on questioning WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange about alleged sex crimes. With a statute of limitations approaching this summer, Sweden has moved to potentially end the stalemate by indicating a willingness to question Assange in London, where he has been holed up at the Ecuadoran embassy.
BEIRUT (AP) – The homegrown Boko Haram (BOH’-koh hah-RAHM’) militant group in Nigeria has been accepted by the Islamic State extremist group. An IS spokesman says Boko Haram’s pledge of allegiance has been approved. The development comes as both groups face increasing military pressure and have sustained setbacks on the battlefield.
