Jamestown (CSi) Float entries are being accepted for the 2014 Holiday Dazzle Parade, in Jamestown.
On Thursday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSI Cable 2, Jamestown Downtown Association, Ambassador Charlie Kourajian said, now is the time to start planning and constructing floats.
This year parade planners would like to have over 50 floats.
Those who have participated in past parades should have gotten a letter, if not and plan to participate, call Charlie at 320-3015 for a registration form and instructions. Or E-mail mainstreet@csicable.net or go online to www.jamestowndowntown.com
Also anyone wishing to be a $100 parade sponsor should contact Charlie.

The parade is planned for Friday November 28, 2014 on 1st Avenue in Jamestown starting at 7-p.m. from McElroy Park to 3rd Street North.
There will be trophies and $100 cash for the best floats in the categories of :

Most Outstanding Amateur Built
Most Outstanding Civic or Non-Profit.
There will be a meeting of parade participants will be at Babb’s, on Monday November 24, 2014, at from 5-p.m., to 7-p.m.
Float numbers and other instructions will be presented at the meeting.
The Jamestown Community Christmas tree lighting will be after the parade, with the time dependent on the number of floats in the parade, with the tree lighting about 7:45-p.m., with a short program at the tree location, at the west side of the Civic Center, before the lighting.
Charlie pointed out that the tree this year will have about 1,500 new larger and brighter lights, with new wiring.
Jamestown City Forester, Doug Wiles says, the tree this year is a Colorado Blue Spruce stands just under 40 feet, and is being donated by Lloyd Landscoot, located at 821 16th Street, Northeast, across from Leapoldt Park.
Following the tree lighting the After Parade Party will be held at the Gladstone Inn & Suites, with cookies provided by Hugo’s and entertainment by the Jamestown Choralaires.
Also on our show, JDA President Nancy Miller said that Jamestown Tourism approved a grant request of $1,000 to advertise the evening as a regional event, to attract tourist to Jamestown.
She pointed out that she, along with Charlie and Lynn Lambrect recently attended a statewide meeting of downtown association members who exchanged ideas.
She pointed out that last summer the hanging flower baskets were extended on downtown light poles, with 140 on display, and that the downtown Christmas decorations are back this year.
Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Parks and Recreation Commission has approved new rates for Hillcrest Municipal Golf Course and the Jamestown Municipal Swimming Pool.
Unanimously approved was increasing the Hillcrest season passes by $50 for each category. A family season pass goes from $500 to $550; from $425 to $475 for a couple; from $375 to $425 for a single adult; from $350 to $400 for a senior; and from $400 to $450 for a senior couple.
Fees also increased from $14 to $15 for nine holes; from $22 to $25 for 18 holes; and from $8 to $10 for an additional nine holes. The cost for a greens fee punch card went from $126 to $135.
Commission Chairman Mike Landscoot says rates have not increased at Hillcrest in two years, with no increase last year in any golf course fees due to work that was planned for Hillcrest, on $800,000 in improvements for Hillcrest.
Next year more work is planned, including the installation of a new irrigation pond and pump system that will catch storm water run off.
The commission also increased the daily admission fee for the Jamestown Municipal Swimming Pool from $6.75 to $7 for a family and from $2.25 to $3 for a single person.
In other business, the commission approved increasing Bob Schuchard’s wage from $14.21 an hour to $16.50 while he is serving as the interim superintendent at Hillcrest.
He asumed the duties after former golf course superintendent Marlyn Bertsch resigned last month. Schuchard will continue to serve as interim superintendent until a replacement has been hired.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Public officials and others are angry about a second train derailment within a year near the southeastern North Dakota town of Casselton.
BNSF Railway officials say it appears that 21 cars of an eastbound train carrying lumber and paper products derailed shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday about 2 miles west of Casselton. The wreckage was then struck by a westbound train carrying empty oil tankers. Twelve cars on that train derailed.
No injuries were reported.
The accident comes less than a year after a derailment involving oil tankers 1 mile west of Casselton sparked massive explosions.
Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney says the latest accident raises serious issues about rail safety.
BNSF spokeswoman Amy McBeth says the railway is “fully investigating” the incident and are talking with public officials.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say a patient and a staff member were injured in a small fire in the patient’s room at Sanford’s main hospital campus in downtown Fargo, but neither one of them was hospitalized as a result of the incident.
Firefighters responded to the call just before 5:30 a.m. Thursday. Hospital officials say that 10 patients were evacuated from nearby rooms and staffers had the fire out when firefighters arrived on scene.
Hospital officials say privacy laws prohibit them from releasing condition reports for the patient or staff member.
Fargo Fire Chief Steve Dirksen says the fire appears to have started in or near the bed in the single room. He says the cause is “fairly obvious” but an official report will not be issued for at least three days.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Officials say a bank in the oil boom town of Williston has been robbed.
Police say the robbery occurred early Thursday afternoon at First International Bank and Trust in downtown Williston.
Bank president Steve Stenehjem says the suspect was able to get away with a “minimal” amount of cash.
Stenehjem says no one saw a weapon but the situation was treated with caution.
(CSi) A 19 year-old and two 16 year-olds are in custody after being found brandishing an AR-15 type assault rifle out of their vehicle’s window.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol, reports, 19 year-old Alex Stenson of Beulah, North Dakota entered a gas station parking lot when a passenger of the vehicle pointed the assault rifle out of the front passenger window down a sidewalk. A stop was conducted and three occupants were removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.
When the vehicle was searched, an M4 assault BB rifle gun was found in the center seat. The tip of the gun, which was supposed to orange from the factory, was painted black to give the appearance of an actual rifle.
Stenson was transported to the Cass County Jail. One male from Moorhead, MN and one female from West Fargo, ND will face unspecified charges in juvenile court and were released into custody of their parents.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s top energy industry regulator has unveiled new rules that will require companies to reduce the volatility of crude before it’s loaded onto rail cars.
State Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms told the state Industrial Commission Thursday that all crude from North Dakota’s oil patch would have to be treated to remove certain liquids and gasses before it’s loaded on to rail cars.
Bakken crude has been linked to several fiery oil train crashes.
The three-member Industrial Commission that includes Governor Jack Dalrymple (DAHL’-rimp-ul) appeared to agree with the proposal in principal but wanted more time for review.
Ron Ness is president of the North Dakota Petroleum Council. He says regulators are unfairly focusing on crude oil when the “root of the issue” is ensuring trains transport the commodity safely.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – U.S. Sen. John Hoeven is due to give an update on his effort to get a permanent FBI office in the heart of the North Dakota oil patch.
Sens. Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp have requested the office in Williston to help the area cope with rising crime. Hoeven has also pushed for the federal Drug Enforcement Agency to dedicate staff to the oil patch. Hoeven plans a news conference Friday. His office wouldn’t say in advance what he would announce.
The FBI currently has North Dakota offices in Fargo, Bismarck, Minot and Grand Forks.
Law enforcement agencies in western North Dakota and eastern Montana have asked for federal help in fighting crime that has emerged as a byproduct of the oil boom and rapid population growth.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Results of the November election will soon be official.
Secretary of State Al Jaeger says the State Canvassing Board is meeting Friday to certify the results of the Nov. 4 election.
Jaeger says there were no races that triggered a recount, either automatically or by demand under state law.
WASHINGTON (AP) – Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is ordering top-to-bottom changes in how the U.S. nuclear force is operated and managed. The changes come as a result of a series of Associated Press stories that revealed problems in management and morale in the people who control the world’s most powerful weapons. Two senior defense officials said the changes are aimed at fixing problems a lengthy study found are rooted in weak leadership. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity before Hagel’s Friday announcement.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Grand Forks officials have narrowed the search for a new police chief to four candidates. A city spokesman says two Grand Forks officers are being considered along with commanders from Fargo and Chicago. They will be interviewed in person next week and will attend the City Council meeting Monday.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota State Fair Center in Minot is hosting a Pride of Dakota Holiday Showcase this weekend.
State Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says more than 110 booths will have North Dakota products ranging from foods to gift items.
Showcase hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
More than 500 companies are members of the Agriculture Department’s Pride of Dakota branding program. Holiday Showcases also are scheduled Nov. 21-23 in Fargo and Dec. 5-7 in Bismarck.
Goehring calls the showcase a “proven formula for success.”

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) – Waldorf College in Iowa is joining the Dakotas-based North Star Athletic Association.
The Warriors football team was an associate member of the NAIA conference this fall. The other 13 Waldorf sports programs will begin conference play next fall, moving from the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The North Star Athletic Association was formed last year by six schools in the Dakotas – Dakota State, University of Jamestown, Mayville State, Presentation, Valley City State and Dickinson State.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) – For 42 minutes the Buffalo Bills did an outstanding job stifling the Miami Dolphins’ offense. It was the final 18 minutes that dropped the Bills to 5-5.
Ryan Tannehill (TAN’-eh-hihl) tossed second-half touchdown passes to Brandon Gibson and Jarvis Landry while the Dolphins were scoring 19 unanswered points to turn a 9-3 deficit into a 22-9 win over the visiting Bills.

NEW YORK (AP) – A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that Adrian Peterson will meet with the NFL on Monday about possible reinstatement with the Minnesota Vikings. Peterson has been on the commissioner’s exempt list since mid-September following his indictment for felony child abuse in Texas. Peterson pleaded no contest last week to a lesser charge of misdemeanor reckless assault.

NEW YORK (AP) – Clayton Kershaw has become the first pitcher since Bob Gibson in 1968 to win the National League MVP award. Kershaw got 18 of 30 first-place votes and 355 points in balloting by members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America after going 21-3 with a 1.77 ERA and one no-hitter. Miami outfielder Giancarlo Stanton got eight first-place ballots and 298 points, while Pittsburgh outfielder Andrew McCutchen got four first and 271 points.
NEW YORK (AP) – Mike Trout is a unanimous winner of the American League’s Most Valuable Player award after consecutive second-place finishes. He hit .287 and set career highs with 36 home runs and 111 RBIs while leading the major leagues with 115 runs and 84 extra-base hits. The 23-year-old Trout is the fifth-youngest MVP in major league history.
DETROIT (AP) – A person with knowledge of the deal says the Detroit Tigers have agreed to a $68 million, four-year contract with slugger Victor Martinez.
The 35-year-old Martinez, hitting .335 with 32 home runs and 103 RBIs and helping Detroit to its fourth straight AL Central title this season.
EASLEY, S.C. (AP) – Longtime manager and star shortstop Alvin Dark has died at age 92. Dark was the major league Rookie of the Year for the 1948 New York Giants and a three-time All-Star. He played for and managed World Series champions in 1954 and 1974.

NEW YORK (AP) – The NBA is expanding the All-Star ballot to include all players, and pushing back the start of voting so fans can better consider their choices.
Voting for the Feb. 15 game in New York will open Dec. 11. It traditionally began this week, when teams aren’t even 10 games into their seasons.
The ballot on NBA.com will for the first time feature every player in the league.

Daniel Berger had five birdies in a seven-hole stretch for a 6-under-65 that leaves him tied with Will MacKenzie, Robert Garrigus (GAR’-ih-guhs), Steve Wheatcroft, Hudson Swafford and Tony Finau. Fifty-year-old Davis Love III was at 66 in a group that included Aaron Baddeley, Charley Hoffman and Pat Perez.
MEXICO CITY (AP) – Christina Kim had two eagles in a 7-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead over Azahara Munoz (ah-sah-HAH’-rah MOON’-yohz) in the Lorena Ochoa (oh-CHOH’-ah) Invitational. Kim’s round featured eagles on the par-5 second and 17th holes and included three birdies in a bogey-free round. She’s seeking her first LPGA victory in nine years.

BAGHDAD (AP) – Iraqi government forces are claiming a key victory today over Islamic State group militants. Two security officials say Islamic State militants have been driven out of their remaining strongholds inside the oil refinery town of Beiji. The Iraqi troops, backed by allied Sunni militiamen, also lifted the Islamic State’s siege of the oil refinery, Iraq’s largest, and hoisted Iraq’s flag.
BEIRUT (AP) – A special cell within al-Qaida’s Syrian branch, the Nusra Front, is the latest target of American air strikes. U.S. defense officials say the cell plans attacks against Western interests. The officials did not provide any details and spoke on condition of anonymity.
GENEVA (AP) – A top official with the U.N. health agency says there’s nothing in the pipeline that looks promising as an effective Ebola drug. Dr. Martin Friede, who is in charge of the World Health Organization’s work toward finding an Ebola drug, says scientists have proposed lots of experimental interventions but none has been thoroughly evaluated yet. He says all kinds of therapies are in use without evidence they’re effective or safe.
FREETOWN, Sierra Leone (AP) – A special treatment center in Nebraska is preparing for another Ebola patient. Officials say a surgeon working in Sierra Leone will be flown to the U.S. tomorrow after being diagnosed with the virus. The doctor will be the third Ebola patient at the Omaha hospital and the 10th person with Ebola to be treated in the U.S.
NEW DELHI (AP) – News reports in India say there are more arrests following the deaths of 13 women who underwent sterilization under a free government program. The director of a drug manufacturing firm that allegedly supplied medication to women in the program has been detained, along with his son. Authorities are investigating whether tainted antibiotics and painkillers were responsible.
