Charlie pointed out that the RRVVCB has a heritage that dates back to the World War II era, as many veterans were returning home. The band was first known as the Gilbert C. Grafton Post 2, in Fargo, Legion Band. About 10 years ago, the RRVVCB incorporated as a 501C3 nonprofit organization, but its mission remains to promote patriotism through music for veteran organizations, nursing and care homes, retirement centers and the general public.

The band is more than 50 years old, and volunteer band members come from all walks of life, many being veterans. The band’s veteran member, Dale Howard, plays the lead clarinet at the age of 93. Ducks Unlimited regional director Steve Adair is chairman of the initiative campaign. He says people in the ads signed releases with the state that allows their images to be used.
