FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Drier and warmer conditions over the past week have enabled North Dakota farmers to make significant progress on the harvest.
The Agriculture Department says in its weekly crop report that temperatures averaged about a dozen degrees above normal, and the week was dry with the exception of limited rainfall in some areas on Sunday.
The harvest of small grains crops is still behind the average pace, however. About 91 percent of the state’s staple spring wheat crop is in the bin, compared with the average of 96 percent.
About 9 percent of the sugar beet crop has been harvested, behind the average of 15 percent.
About three-fourths of the winter wheat crop has been planted.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Three women have been arrested in Grand Forks in connection with recent pharmacy burglaries in Hillsboro and Larimore.
The Grand Forks County sheriff’s department says the stolen narcotics have a street value of nearly of $50,000.
The women were arrested when law enforcement executed a search warrant at a home. Authorities say they seized various items including drug paraphernalia and narcotics believed to have come from the burglaries.
The women are 35-year-old Jodi Olson, 18-year-old Alexis Littlewind and 29-year-old Amanda Peterson. They have been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit burglary.
Olson and Littlewind are also facing multiple counts of possession of a control substance with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Court records don’t list attorneys for the Grand Forks women.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Grand Forks police say the city has revoked a license for a company that sells cleaning products door-to-door.
The Grand Forks Police Department said Monday that World Wide Products’ transient merchant license would be revoked Monday afternoon, just days after it began selling in Grand Forks on Sept. 25.
Police say the move comes after many residents complained about the tactics some of the company’s sales representatives used. They say those tactics include alleged violations of city code, but didn’t provide other details.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Secretary of State Al Jaeger is encouraging voters in North Dakota to use a state website to find information about the upcoming general election.
Jaeger says the website www.vote.nd.gov has information about polling locations and hours, the full text of each of the eight measures on the ballot and details about candidates for statewide, legislative and judicial positions.
Jaeger says sample ballots, voter identification requirements and absentee voting information are also available at the website.
The election is Nov. 4.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The Grand Forks County sheriff’s department has flown its first nighttime drone mission.
Sheriff Bob Rost says the unmanned aircraft team was contacted after four suspects fled a traffic stop about 2:20 a.m. Sunday in rural Larimore, about 30 miles west of Grand Forks.
The drone was deployed after a K-9 unit was unable to locate the suspects. Rost says the aircraft helped locate one of the suspects in a corn field.
Two suspects were arrested on the scene, and a third was taken into custody later.
The Federal Aviation Administration in March granted the county permission for night operations. The drone unit is a joint effort among the Grand Forks County sheriff’s department, the University of North Dakota and two unmanned aircraft manufacturers.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – More than 34,000 students in dozens of North Dakota schools will lunch on products from their own state Wednesday.
The products that will be served to students during the annual Pride of Dakota School Lunch Day have been grown by North Dakota farmers and ranchers and processed by local businesses.
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says this event helps students learn how their food is raised and produced.
The menus have been prepared by the Department of Instruction. The lunches will be served at more 130 schools across the state.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Gov. Jack Dalrymple wants the state to spend more oil tax revenues to improve North Dakota’s park system and for statewide conservation enhancements.
Dalrymple’s plan calls for raising the cap on the North Dakota Outdoor Heritage fund from $30 million every two years to $50 million.
The plan also calls for investing an additional $30.4 million in new funds to improve state parks.
The GOP governor’s plan comes as conservation advocates are pushing a measure for an even bigger slice of North Dakota oil tax revenues for a fund to benefit water, wildlife and parks projects. The measure will appear on the November ballot.
Backers want 5 percent of the state’s oil extraction taxes for the fund. That would raise about $260 million during the 2015-17 budget cycle.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota State University is changing the name of its School of Music to honor two longtime supporters.
The school has scheduled an Oct. 8 concert at Festival Concert Hall to celebrate The Robert and Sheila Challey School of Music.
The Challeys have pledged more than $4.2 million to the school since 2006.
NDSU alumnus Robert Challey is a real-estate developer and investor in California. He says having the music school named for him and his wife is “a tremendous honor.”
Sheila Challey is an active member of Bison Arts, a social and fundraising organization for the NDSU Division of Performing Arts. She also is a volunteer fundraiser for Children’s Hospital of Oakland.
BISMARK, N.D. (AP) – Two American Indian tribes in North Dakota are getting a total of more than $1.4 million in federal money to help disabled tribal members find jobs.
U.S. Sen. John Hoeven announced Monday that the Spirit Lake Sioux tribe is getting about $506,000 and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa is getting about $900,000. He says the grants will help people with disabilities reintegrate into the workforce.
The money is from a U.S. Education Department program that supports vocational rehabilitation programs for people with disabilities living on or near reservations.
WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department says young zebra mussels have been detected in the Red River near Wahpeton.
Aquatic nuisance species coordinator Fred Ryckman said Monday their larvae were present in the same area in 2010 and 2011, but weren’t found in the past two years. He says finding more larvae in the area wasn’t a surprise because there are zebra mussel populations upstream in the Otter Tail River in Minnesota.
Adult zebra mussels haven’t been discovered in North Dakota, despite reports of new and growing infestations in Minnesota. The Red River site is the only one where young mussels have been found in North Dakota.
Officials are urging residents and visitors to check for invasive species when pulling fishing piers and boating equipment out of bodies of water.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) – Michigan Athletic Director Dave Brandon says a “serious lack of communication” led to ailing quarterback Shane Morris playing Saturday against Minnesota when he should not have. Brandon says medical staff and coaches on the sideline did not see the fourth-quarter hit Morris took from Minnesota’s Theiren Cockran. A wobbly Morris briefly looked as though he was having trouble standing. The sophomore remained in for the next play.

A person with knowledge of the move has confirmed to The Associated Press that Dennis Allen is out after just two-plus seasons and an 8-28 record.
The firing was first reported by Fox Sports.
The decision comes one day after the team lost its 10th straight contest dating to last season, 38-14 to Miami in London. The Raiders went 4-12 in each of their two full seasons under Allen and haven’t had a winning season since capturing the 2002 AFC championship.
Allen was the first coach hired by the Raiders following the death of owner Al Davis.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) – Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone (muh-ROHN’) has announced that quarterback Kyle Orton will start Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. The move comes after EJ Manuel had another sub-standard performance in the Bills’ loss to Houston on Sunday. Orton was signed in the offseason as a veteran back-up to Manuel, who was Buffalo’s first-round draft pick in 2013 and has started 14 games over the past two seasons.

The 20-year-old Ward was struck and killed by Stewart’s car during a sprint car race in upstate New York on Aug. 9.

WASHINGTON (AP) – With an eye on potential ethical conflicts in medicine, data is being released today on payments by drug companies to individual doctors. Critics say there’s a built-in conflict of interest that could influence prescribing decisions. President Barack Obama’s health care law requires manufacturers to report payments and gifts to physicians, unless they are valued at less than $10.
BRUSSELS (AP) – The European Union’s competition watchdog says tax rebates that Ireland granted iPhone maker Apple appear to amount to illegal state aid. Apple Inc. funnels the bulk of its international sales through subsidiaries in Ireland, where it benefits from low, negotiated tax deals. In a letter to the Irish government published today, the 28-nation bloc’s executive Commission said the tax treatment granted to Apple raises “doubts about the compatibility” with EU law.
