Valley City (CSi) Anyone with information into two Friday morning businesses in Valley City is asked to call police, at 845-3110/

Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson, reports, that between midnight and 7 a.m. Friday individual(s) entered Dietrich and Sons Bus Barn, at 815 14th Street, Southwest and Truck and Auto, 14th Street Southwest, taking or attempting to burglarize the businesses.

Thompson says a floor safe at Truck and Auto was broken into with contents taken, that included an undisclosed amount of money.

Items were stacked near Dietrich’s exit door, including a large-screen television and hand tools, but were left behind.

Thompson says it’s possible the suspects were interrupted because of a shift change at a nearby business.

Employees arriving and leaving the nearby business may have seen the crime, but were unaware a crime was taking place.

Valley City police searched the surrounding area after being dispatched by Barnes County Communications, but were unable to locate any suspects.

Thompson said it appears both burglaries were allegedly committed by the same person or people.

The burglary and entry remain under investigation.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Job Service North Dakota data show about one of every seven private sector jobs in the state are related to oil and gas production.

Agency data also show that 28.5 percent of North Dakota wages come from the oil industry.

Stutsman County has 136 jobs related to the oil field or about 1.5 percent of the workforce. The calculations are based on quarterly reports filed by employers in the second half of 2013.

Stutsman County has 9,107 total workers in the private sector who are covered by unemployment insurance while Jamestown has 8,572.

The report says every one of North Dakota’s 53 counties has some oil- or gas-related jobs.

That amounts to about 1.4 percent of the private workforce in Jamestown.

The Legislature gave Job Service $120,000 to do the report.

Thirty-five-year-old Rogelio Martinez is charged with attempted murder and terrorizing, and could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Rogelio Martinez asked Andres Martinez to come to his house on July 12. He allegedly approached his cousin’s vehicle and put a gun to his face, pulling the trigger when his cousin grabbed the gun. Police say the bullet went through the vehicle door and grazed Andres Martinez’s hand.

Rogelio Martinez’s defense attorney did not immediately respond to an Associated Press request for comment Monday. Martinez is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A 250-mile transmission line from Center to Grand Forks has been completed.

The 345-kilovolt line operated by Minnkota Power Cooperative cost about $353 million and took more than two years to be built.

Project manager Mike Hennes says the new line can be compared to an interstate highway system. Hennes says that once the transmission line is built, the bulk flow of electricity moves to the new line, effectively freeing up capacity on the underlying system.

This  is the longest line in state history that begins and ends within North Dakota.

Minnkota serves 34,500 square miles in eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Producers and processors of organic food in North Dakota can apply for help paying their certification costs.

Certification enables organic producers and processors to label and sell their products with a federal seal that assures consumers the products were produced using recognized organic methods.

The national program last year provided $99,000 in certification reimbursements in North Dakota.

Favre writes on his official website that it will be an honor to have his name placed among others such Bart Starr, Curly Lambeau, Ray Nitschke and Vince Lombardi, to name a few.

Favre says it wouldn’t be possible if not for the foresight of former general manager Ron Wolf, who he says is the greatest GM in the history of the NFL.

The team plans an official announcement Monday afternoon. Favre will join by teleconference.

It’s been six years since Favre ‘retired’ from the Packers, tried to return, then went on to play for the New York Jets and rival Minnesota Vikings – a move that outraged some Packers fans.
