Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation (JSDC) held an Executive Committee meeting Monday, followed by the full board meeting.

JSDC’s Marketing/Workforce Developer, Holly Miller says, at the Executive Committee meeting the panel discussed funding from the Economic Development Incentive fund to pay for extending the rail spur at the Spiritwood Energy Park to the new adjacent purchase of the Klose property.

Following that meeting the JSDC’s full Board of Director’s met.

Ms. Miller says the board heard a request from Buffalo City Diesel to change their request from a pace to a flex pace incentive funding package.

The request of funding from the Incentive Fund was approved.

The action will move to the Jamestown City Council and Stutsman County Commission for consideration.

She points out the JSDC’s Strategic Plan is still in the process of being worked on in the area of priorities and the role of JSDC. Developers at the meeting provided input. The JSDC board members will attend the May 21, 2014 Housing meeting from 1-4-p.m., at the Center For Economic Development, a the lower level conference room. Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Planning Commission has denied a zoning request by Neal Klein for property at 1500 and 1510 11th Ave. NE.

Klein requested the zoning of the property be changed from R-3, general multiple-dwelling district, to C-2, general commercial district. He said he planned to construct heated storage and office space on the lots, which was not allowed under R-3 zoning.

Stephanie Falkers, planner for SRF Consulting, recommended denying the zoning change, pointing out that the lots in question were surrounded by apartment buildings. Three of the property owners adjacent to the lots also protested the change.

The Planning Commission will hold a special meeting at 8 a.m. May 22 at City Hall concerning zoning changes for the planned Menards and Metroplains project.

WAHPETON (AP) The vice-president of academic and student affairs at the state college of science in Wahpeton says school administrators were not told early on that a missing student was accused of dealing marijuana.

A warrant has been issued for 20-year-old Andrew Sadek who’s been missing for more than a week. Richland County Sheriff Larry Leshovsky says he only learned of the warrant a week ago, but the information was withheld. Sadek is accused of selling small amounts of marijuana to an undercover informant about a year ago.

The search for Sadek has been suspending, pending any additional leads.

The state Aeronautics Commission says 94,720 people boarded planes at the state’s eight large airports, up 14 percent over the year. Airports in Dickinson, Williston, Minot, Fargo and Grand Forks all posted their best passenger numbers on record for the month.

Dickinson saw the biggest percentage increase over April 2013, of 221 percent. Fargo had the biggest increase in actual passengers, with 6,411 more boardings.

SkyWest airline service begins in Jamestown on June 5th.  Jamestown Regional Airport Manager, Matt Leitner says nearly 300 reservations have been made through either travel agents or at united.com

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A judge has set bond at $25,000 cash for a Tioga man accused of threatening three people with a gun in Bismarck and pointing the weapon at police.

Twenty-three-year-old Colton Wooten faces felony charges of terrorizing and reckless endangerment, as well as misdemeanor weapons charges. He could face up to 32 years in prison if convicted on all of the counts.

Wooten was arrested early Saturday after a police officer shot at him but missed. He made his initial court appearance on Monday.

Authorities say the weekend incident happened after Wooten had been at a bar.  Wooten said in court on Monday that he had been drinking but is not a violent man. He said he moved from Texas last year in search of work.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Bismarck police say a man who detectives had questioned regarding an armed robbery at a pharmacy has been released because of insufficient evidence.

Officers responded to The Medicine Shoppe around 10:15 a.m. Monday after receiving calls about a man threatening an employee with a knife. The man fled on foot into a nearby apartment building but was arrested after leaving the building.

It was not immediately clear if the suspect took anything from the drug store.

The suspect is described as a male, 5 foot 10 inches tall, wearing a light-colored sweatshirt, cap, sunglasses and a mask.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Health Department says one more person has been linked to the hepatitis C outbreak at a nursing home in the Minot area.

State epidemiologist Tracy Miller says the case count is now at 45, all being current or former residents of ManorCare.

At least 500 people have been tested since last year. State officials continue to contact individuals that could have been exposed to the virus and urge them to undergo testing.

ManorCare Health Services-Minot offers long-term care services, but most of its patients come directly from a hospital for rehabilitation before returning home.

Miller says the cases have been associated with receiving phlebotomy, podiatry and toenail care services at the facility.

Hepatitis C is a viral infection that can cause serious liver damage or even death.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota is remembering its fallen law enforcement officers.

A North Dakota Peace Officer memorial service is slated on the state Capitol grounds Tuesday night.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – University of North Dakota president Robert Kelley is condemning a decision by some young people to create and wear T-shirts with a caricature of the school’s former Indian head logo drinking out of a beer bong.

The words “Siouxper Drunk” are featured above the drawing, a reference to the school’s Fighting Sioux nickname that was retired in 2012. Group photos of people wearing the T-shirts have been posted on several websites.

Kelley said in a statement issued Monday that the message on the shirts demonstrates “an unacceptable lack of sensitivity and a complete lack of respect for American Indians and all members of the community.”

Kelley says the T-shirts are associated with an annual spring party that is not a university event.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Oil, gas and fracking fluid is leaking from an oil well near Tioga days after local authorities learned about the problem.

Williams County emergency coordinator Mike Hallesy says he was notified Friday evening and the leak hasn’t stopped. But he says it has been contained by berms.

Department of Mineral Resources spokeswoman Alison Ritter says the well is protected by a confidentiality agreement, so her office can only confirm that a spill has occurred and give the general location of the well and its owner. Information about confidential wells is withheld from the public for up to six months.

Denver-based Emerald Oil owns the well.

A well control company connected to Halliburton has been called in to try to stop the flow.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota officials are trying to raise awareness of the emerald ash borer and prevent its spread into the state, which has about 78 million ash trees.

The beetles have killed millions of ash trees in several states including Minnesota. North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says the pest is now widespread in Minneapolis-St. Paul, and given the traffic on Interstate 94 between North Dakota and the Twin Cities it will be difficult to keep the bug out of North Dakota.

Gov. Jack Dalrymple has proclaimed next week as Emerald Ash Borer Awareness Week. Foresters in 30 cities and state parks will be tying ribbons along with informational fliers to publicly owned ash trees.

Local, state and federal officials also will be placing about 350 insect traps around the state.

The North Dakota Missouri River Shareholders are planning a fall workshop to outline the group’s plans and increase support.

Group leaders say the Missouri River is central to the state’s future and the success of the project depends on participation from local entities.
