But she realized there were paw prints in the blood, and found the couple's pet cat nearby. While at the lab, the cat still tried to attack the bird. As Hodges processed the cat, Sara processed the parrot and found blood on his feathers. She and Greg determined the husband, who regularly showered with the parrot, was showering that morning and the bathroom door was left opened. The cat jumped in to attack the bird, and the husband was accidentally knocked unconscious and drowned in a small amount of water. The wife, who'd been chopping vegetables preparing breakfast, had a knife in her hand when she came to investigate. The bird, in a frenzied state, attacked the woman while trying to get away from the cat. The woman fell onto the knife, stabbing herself to death. The team learned the man's daughter was involved in a gang, and the man had been seeking revenge on the gang. The man's daughter arrived at the police station claiming to want to help, and told the man to go to an abandoned theme park they used to go to. However, Greg, Nick and Sara analyzed surveillance footage of her arrival and realized she was setting her father and everyone on the helicopter up to die. Greg angrily confronted the daughter, who smugly told him "it's done." Greg, D.B., Ecklie, Brass and police arrived at the park as a shootout ensued. The gang members were all killed, as were the two pilots and the girl's father. Greg rushed to Morgan, and she told him he still owed her one from when she volunteered to take his place on the helicopter. Ecklie hugged his daughter and D.B. led her away as she broke down in tears.

Greg, Catherine and D.B. investigated the murder of a mogul at his elaborate birthday party. They discovered the mogul was a suspect in the abduction and murder of a child years before, when he was a teenager. Greg then helped Morgan investigate the death of a woman in a seedy hotel room. At the autopsy, Greg learned the woman ingested PCP, which made her hallucinate and jab a shard of glass from a broken mirror into herself. Later, the team learned those cases and one Nick and Sara were investigating were tied to a former cop, now in hospice with cancer. Greg discovered the cop's accomplice was at Lake Mead with another suspect thought to have gotten away with murder years ago. Cops arrived to find Detective Sam Vega trying to drown the man. Vega then forced police to shoot and kill him. Greg examined evidence from the gun of the suspect as the man was arrested in the hospital.

Her friend was arrested for orchestrating the murders of three people and, presumably, killing the FBI agent who tried to help her. Catherine then left to work with the FBI.

When women reported chunks of their hair being taken in public, Greg and the team investigated. Two victims were later murdered. They learned the killer wanted them to look like a certain woman. After Morgan and Sara spoke to a doctor who'd treated the woman for cancer, Greg spoke to the woman that was thought to be the killer's muse. Later, a woman who'd Russell comforted was found murdered. Nick and Greg searched her home and found a piece of a photo. They soon determined the woman was actually the mother of the doctor and the doctor killed the women and tried to make them resemble his mother.

D.B. recommended Greg to work with a former colleague of his from Seattle, Julie "Finn" Finlay. He helped her reconstruct blood events in a shooting, and she came to work with the team.

Finn came to work with the team as they investigated a stolen house. Greg and D.B. investigated when a man was found dead in a street, missing an arm and a leg. They learned the man was tied to the stolen house and a dead body found under the house. When they learned the victim was stabbed before falling from the house after it was stolen, Greg and Morgan searched the street the victim was found on. They found the knife broken into pieces. When they rebuilt the knife handle at the lab, Morgan and Greg found a fingerprint. The fingerprint belonged to the long-absent father of the three grown children who were arguing about the house. The father was arrested. When Finn and Sara returned to the house, the three children were still arguing. Finn threatened to cut the house apart with a chainsaw, and told them the owner of the house owed the city several thousand dollars in damages. The two brothers gave the house to the sister, who donated the house to the city and, because of that, didn't have to pay any damages.

As the team were called to investigate a missing boy and his nanny, Las Vegas was plunged into a blackout. Greg and Morgan examined the blood found at the crime scene, and determined the nanny was the boy's surrogate mother. When Morgan walked into Greg as he was carrying a knife, she told him it would put her out of her misery since she couldn't determine what knocked the boy unconscious when he was taken. Greg gave her an old microscope, and told her to "forget old school, go ancient." Morgan determined the boy was knocked unconscious after his nanny was killed. After Brass interrogated a psychic who held a séance to contact the boy's mother who accidentally drowned years before, power was restored and the team determined the psychic was obsessed with the dead woman and killed the nanny. Nick and Sara found the boy safe at the psychic's apartment as D.B. found the psychic dead in the man's pool. After the boy was safely returned, Morgan was putting the microscope back in the display case, and Greg asked if she might need it again. Morgan smiled and said, "Why go old school?" Greg smiled and said, "When you can go ancient."

One of the murder victims was the wife of the man who'd hosted the party. The team learned the dead woman's husband killed the party Santa, thinking it was the business owner, because the owner was to donate a kidney to his imprisoned brother. The owner kidnapped the man, and Greg realized where the water that was turned into snow for the business came from. Police arrived and saved the man, and both were arrested. Later, the man's young son waited for his grandparents with Hodges, and read a story called The Found Reindeer as the CSIs enjoyed a Christmas party. Morgan smiled and hugged Greg when he revealed himself to be her "Secret Santa."

When journalist John Merchinston, who'd been writing a story about the team during the Date's Inferno killer investigation, was thought to be killed in a car crash, the team and Sean Yeager investigated. When Merchinston was revealed to be alive, they discovered he'd been writing a story about a top-secret military project. As the FBI investigated, Nick showed Greg and Morgan a photo of a fingerprint from the crime scene, and they realized the print had no pores and was fake. Knowing the FBI was watching, Greg asked Hodges for help. Hodges found information that led to someone higher up than the FBI.
