I've read through all the pages on the transmission flush sticky. I'm still wondering about a few things.

First off, our 1998 CR-V 4WD automatic has 175,000 miles on it. I don't know if the transmission fluid has ever been changed! We bought it with approximately 100,000 miles on it and the previous owner had all the maintenance receipts she had done to it and nowhere was a mention of a transmission fluid change.

We have never changed the transmission fluid in 75,000 miles and the transmission stills shifts fine and works great. In fact the thing still runs and shifts like a dream.

We have maintained it with proper maintenance like regular 5,000 mile oil and filter changes, differential fluid change and the timing belt/water pump was replaced at 100,000, (just before we bought it), and we had it done again at 150,000 miles. We've also changed the spark plugs, wires, rotor, valve adjustment and whatever.

We just took it to the Honda dealer like we always do every 5,000 miles for a oil and filter change, (we live rural and the closest Honda dealer is over an hour away), and the service manager this time told us the transmission fluid is very dark and we are desperately in need of the 3 time transmission flush. They wanted $240.00 to do it!

I don't want to dump a lot of money into our old 1998 CR-V but I'd like to keep it running and shifting great but $240.00 is just too much money for a "flush" especially now as we're having some financial problems. I know the flush can be done myself and most of you will say do it but I really don't want to spend well over $100.00 for a case of DW-1.

Since we're having no problems with the transmission and we don't do any "hard miles" with it, (just surface streets and freeway miles), I would think that just a fluid change with new Honda DW-1 fluid would be better than nothing and would help keep it shifting well. What do you think?
