Pacific Explorer (built 1997, last refurbished in 2015, scheduled refurbishment 2017) is the newest addition to the P and O Australia cruise fleet. Launched as Dawn Princess and operated by Princess Cruises, the ship will be transferred to the Carnival Corporation’s Australian subsidiary company in 2017. Then, it will join the Pacific-named fleetmates Dawn, Jewel and Pearl, and also the 2015 transferred from Holland America ships Aria and Eden. Pacific Explorer cabins review

Follows the review of Pacific Explorer staterooms as amenities, furniture and services:

All Pacific Explorer Suite accommodations have walk-in closet (ample storage space), living room (sofa bed, desk, vanity, table, armchairs), bathroom (WC, shower stall, whirlpool bathtub, double sinks).

Bonus amenities in all Suites are the deluxe mattress/pillows, 2 flat TVs, CD/DVD player, upgraded bathroom amenities (massage showerheads, luxury bath products), luxury furniture on the balcony, complimentary services (Spa Thermal Suite, Internet Cafe, laundry/dry cleaning, one-time mini bar).

All balcony accommodations feature sliding glass doors (floor-ceiling) opening to a private verandah (round table, patio chairs) plus sunloungers (balcony suites only).

Balcony cabins have ample closet space, bathroom (shower), desk, drawer. Some have additional beds for 3rd/4th person.

Oceanview cabins have picture window (category OE with Porthole Window, category OW with obstructed view). Deluxe / Premium Oceanview are larger in size.

Inside cabins have same size and amenities as Ocean-View rooms, but lack the window.

All Pacific Explorer cabins as amenities have living area (vanity, desk, seating), 2 twin beds (convertible to queen), deluxe bedding sets (Egyptian cotton linens), closet, desk, flat TV, direct-dial phone, safe, hairdryer, bath products (shampoo, body lotion, conditioner), mini-bar/fridge, individual air-conditioning, evening turndown service, complimentary 24-hour room service.

Pacific Explorer Deck Plans Review

Pacific Explorer cruise ship deck plan has a total of 999 cabins for 1998 passengers served by 924 crew/staff.

The P&O Explorer ship has 11 passenger accessible decks, 7 restaurants and bars, 6 lounges, 3 swimming pools, 6 jacuzzies, 9 elevators.

Passenger use launderettes (laundromats) are located on decks 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 11. These are self-service laundry facilities with detergent being provided.

Note: The following deck plan review is based on the ship’s official deck layouts. We will correct the existing and add new information on the Explorer ship as soon as P&O Cruises Australia officially release news and updates on its newest upcoming fleet member. Among the pending deck plan changes will be changed names of public venues (restaurants, bars and lounges), new amenities and probably some new facilities.

Pacific Explorer Deck 4 Plan – Gala

Staff/crew cabins

Medical Centre (forward location) is the Explorer ship’s hospital operated by resident doctors and nurses on 24-hour duty. Payments are made by the P&O Cruises boarding pass (treatments equivalent to a private doctor’s visit). General and Australia health insurance policies do not apply, so buying cruise health insurance is recommended.

Pacific Explorer Deck 5 Plan – Plaza

Atrium (formerly named Grand Plaza) is a 4-decks high, open-floor design area with galss-walled panoramic lifts. Its Lobby level is a lounge of its own, featuring a grand piano and live entertainment during the day.

Cafe (portside, former “La Patisserie Bar”) is the lobby bar (open between 6 am – 11 pm), offering specialty coffees, pastries, desserts, also wine and liquor.

Reception Desk (starboard) provides 24-hour passenger services and assistance – information, purser, booking, reservations.

Shore Tours Desk (portside) serves the P&O Australia line’s tours/excursions booking program, and also provides information on all tours and excursions organized in each of the current itinerary’s ports of call.

Restaurant (formerly named Florentine Restaurant) is an aft-located Dining Room (open for dinner only). It offers formal dining with 2 fixed seatings- at 5:45 or 7:45 pm.

Cruise cabins from 5001 to 5064, of which Inside (categories – IE, IF) and Oceanview (categories – OE, OG); Self Service Laundromat.

Pacific Explorer Deck 6 Plan – Emerald

Atrium Boutiques is the ship’s shopping arcade consisting of Regatta Shop (fashion clothes, P&O Australia logo merchandise, souvenirs, sundries, essentials, tobacco and liquor), and Illuminations (luxury jewelry, watches, brand glasses).

Restaurant (formerly named Venetian Restaurant) is an aft-located Dining Room open for Breakfast (between 7:30-9:30 am), Lunch (between 12-1 pm, Afternoon Tea (between 3:30-4:30 pm) and Dinner. There are 2 fixed seatings for dinner – at 5:45 and 7:45 pm.

Pacific Explorer Deck 7 Plan – Promenade

Marquee Theatre is the ship’s main show lounge presenting in the evenings large scale music and show productions. During the day, here are hosted trivia games, bingo sessions, gameshows, various workshops and seminars.

Bar (former Wheelhouse Bar) is a daily piano bar which transforms into a traditional English pub bar in the evening. The bar features comfortable furniture, dance floor, stage for live performances and offers fine alcohol and craft beers. During the day, the bar serves English pub lunches (complimentary) and whiskey flights (brand malt whiskey alcohol sampling, at surcharge).

Future Cruise Sales Office serves the line’s onboard deals booking program.

Atrium Lounge & Bar features a large dance dance floor and live music entertainment. The lounge is served by its own piano bar.

Art Gallery displays artworks available for purchasing. here are also hosted art auctions.

Bar (portside, former Jammers Disco & Nightclub) has a large dance floor and DJ programming in the evenings. Here are also hosted daily karaoke, game shows, art auctions, various classes.

Restaurant (starboard, former Magnums Bar) is the ship’s wine bar, also offering fine Champagnes.

Library / Writing Room has a selection of books, board games, quizzes, sudoku.

Photo Gallery & Shop offers photo-video services and sells equipment and accessories at duty-free prices. Here can also be purchased photos and videos made by the ship’s professional photographers.

Bar (former Internet Cafe) is a 24-hour open Internet computers room (with printing services).

Vista Lounge & Bar is a live entertainment lounge with a dedicated stage for performances by guest comedians, singers, illusionists. The lounge is served by its own full-service bar.

Pacific Explorer Deck 8 Plan – Dolphin

Restaurant (formerly named La Scala Pizzeria) is complimentary and open for Lunch (between 12-1:30 pm) and Dinner (6-11 pm).

The Casino lounge has slot machines and gambling tables, and is served with drinks by its own bar (former Players Bar / sports bar with big-size TVs).

The ship has as service boats 12 lifeboats, 2 rescue boats and 6 passenger tender boats.

Pacific Explorer Deck 11 Plan – Aloha

Cruise cabins from 11001 to 11247, of which Inside (categories – IA, IC, ID), Oceanview (category OD) and Balcony (categories – BB, BC, BE); Self Service Laundromat.

Pacific Explorer Deck 12 Plan – Riviera/Pool/Spa

The fore-located Navigation Bridge and the adjacent Captain’s Suite and officers quarters are inaccessible for passengers.

The Main Pool area (forward/midship location, formely Riviera Pool) has 2 swimming pools, 3 Whirlpools, Tennis Tables, a sunbathing area with loungers. It is served with drinks by a poolside bar (formerly The Riviera Bar). The bar is open between 11am-6pm, and also offers ice-cream, specialty coffees and sweets.

The spa deck also has a virtual Golf Simulator.

Platinum Studio (B&W photos/portraits studio sessions)

Kids & Teen Centers (starboard) are dedicated for children and teenagers club facilities for age-appropriate and supervised daily activities. Among those are sports competitions, dance classes, treasure hunts, themed parties, computers, gaming consoles, big-size TVs, foosball tables.

The ship’s wellness complex (branded “Aqua HealthSpaFitness”) consists of a roundshaped pool (formerly Oasis Pool), 2 Whirlpools, Fitness Center (with a separate Aerobics Studio for classes), Day Spa, Saunas, Treatments Rooms (for massages), Beauty Salon (manicure/pedicure/barber services).

Card Room is the brudge playing club lounge.

Spa Deck cruise cabins from 12001 to 12051, of which Inside (category – IA) and Balcony (categories – BC, BE).

Pacific Explorer Deck 14 Plan – Lido

Restaurant (fore-location, former Horizon Court) is the ship’s self-service buffet restaurant. The lido buffet is complimentary and open for Breakfast 9between 6:30 – 11:30 am), Lunch (between 11:30 am – 3:30 pm) or British Pub Lunch (between 11:30-1:30 pm /on selected days) and also for casual Dinner (between 5:30-11 pm). The buffet has its own bar for drinks, also stage for live performances and a dance floor.

Sterling Steakhouse is a specialty restaurant (at surcharge PP) offering grill specialties (steaks and seafood). It is open for dinner-only (between 6-10 pm /reservations required).

Balcony Grill Bar is a fast food bar (open between 11 am – 6 pm) for burgers, hotdogs, kebabs, fries. Food is complimentary, drinks cost extra.

Movies Under the Stars is the ship’s signature outdoor cinema with a huge LED screen. Complimentary popcorn-cookies-milk are offered during the evening projections.

Deck Games area (portside) has Shuffleboard and Golf Net (1 golf cage), with staircase access to the Sports Court (deck 15).

Oasis Bar is an outdoor poolside bar serving with drinks the aft-located sunbathing area (with 1 Whirlpool).

Pacific Explorer Deck 15 Plan – Sun/Sports

With fore-location is the adult-only area (former “The Sanctuary”) with its own swimming pool and full-service bar (former Windjammers Bar) for drinks and light meals. The adults deck also has outdoor private cabanas for spa massages (charges apply PP per full or half day).

Sports Court is a multi-sports combined court for playing basketball, volleyball, European football.
