P&O Cruises Britannia, named by Her Majesty The Queen in March, has been voted Best New Ocean Ship at the Cruise International Awards 2015.
Princess Cruises, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2015, was awarded Best Cruise Line for the second year running, while Viking River Cruises was voted as Best River Cruise Line and Best Luxury River Cruise Line.
Uniworld’s S.S. Maria Theresa was awarded Best New River Ship and Titan Travel was named Best Cruise Agent at the awards which mark the start of the build-up to National Cruise Week (19 to 27 September).
Liz Jarvis, Editor of Cruise International, said: “The Cruise International Awards 2015 are voted for by the people who go on cruises and the results are a real insight into consumer opinion. With new cruise lines making an impact in 2015 this year’s results have been very interesting. The cruise industry continues to go from strength to strength and we’re delighted to be able to play our part in recognising the extraordinary achievements and incredible innovation of this amazing industry.”
Andy Harmer, Director of the Cruise Lines International Association, added: “The Cruise International Cruise Awards are very much an integral part of the cruise calendar and it’s great to see cruise lines, agents and others recognised for their outstanding service by those who matter – the consumers. The thousands of votes for the Awards bear testament to the passion shown by those holidaymakers with a love for everything cruise.”
Disney Cruise Line won the Best for Families award and Norwegian Cruise Line were voted Best for Onboard Entertainment. Alaska was named as Best Worldwide Destination while Norway was given the accolade of Best European Destination.
Among the celebrities attending the awards ceremony at the Ham Yard Hotel in London’s Piccadilly were actress Michelle Collins, former BBC Royal Correspondent Jennie Bond, Eurovision winner Cheryl Baker, Heart radio presenter Katy Hill and Sunday Times best-selling novelist Milly Johnson.
The awards were sponsored by Azamara Club Cruises, Titan Travel, Bric’s luxury luggage, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Cruise Lines International Association.
