2016-02-12

As many of you know, we are getting real close to kicking off the 2016 CrossFit Games season later this month with the start of the worldwide Open. Justin talked about it in his post earlier this week but if you want to know what it’s all about and why you should definitely sign up, just go to the CrossFit Games website. In the spirit of competition and the Games season approaching, we have kicked off our 2x/week competition class at Hermosa. It’s called Comp Squad on the schedule and it will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm. Justin and I will be coaching this class, with some help from Forrest and Gus.

In addition, Justin has been throwing some elements into the class programming lately that are designed to prepare you for the Open while still developing broad, general, and inclusive fitness for those who have no intention of participating (at least officially). Over the next few weeks leading up to the start of the Open (February 25th), you will continue to see things that are meant to prepare you. They will include particular skills, modalities, loads, workout formats, and time domains. You may even practice judging each other’s workouts for range of motion and completed reps. Full range of motion not only promotes functional fitness but also levels the playing field for competition. The Open is a competition and standards will be high.

With all that said, I encourage everyone to register for the Open. In terms of fitness, effort, support, and camaraderie, I really do believe the CrossFit Games Open brings out the best in people. There are divisions for everyone, including teens, masters, and scaled options for every workout. If you have any questions, post to comments to or just talk to us at the gym!
