Its almost time for another Open. For those of you unfamiliar with the term the open is the start of the CrossFit Games season. Over the course of 5 weeks 5 workouts will be released and athletes from around the world will have 4 days to complete them and submit their scores. The top scoring individuals or teams within each region will then be invited to take part in a regional competition in May. This year the details are as follows:

There is both a Scaled and an RX’d Division

Every workout will need to be counted and scored by a Judge – For these scores to count the judges need to have completed the online judges course

The workouts will be released every Thursday at 5pm and all scores must be submitted by 5pm on the following Monday

The open is about the spirit of CrossFit and bringing everyone together. You don’t need to have aspirations about making the Games to compete especially with the advent of the scaled division. We encourage everyone to sign up and come out and do the workouts! Which brings me to my  next point.

Open Fridays

For the duration of the open we will no longer be having Open Gym times on Friday nights; They will be replaced with Open Fridays. Starting at 7pm and running until everyone has completed the Open workout for the week. We will run through in heats depending on the number of judges we have!

Judges Course

For a workout score to count in both the RX’d and the Scaled division it must be judged by someone who has completed the CrossFit Judges Course on the CrossFit Games webpage. Generally speaking the more judges we have the better, it means we will be able to run bigger heats and finish up much quicker on Friday nights! It cost $20 to take the course and if you have the time we encourage everyone to take it. It is also very informative about the full movement standards for each movement we will most likely see.

Workout Redo’s

For those of you who will potentially be redoing some of these workouts we will be setting up some rules to minimize the disruption to regular classes. We are still ironing out the details but we will have something for you closer to the start of the Open!

Team Training Changes

No more Saturday Mornings

For the duration of the Open we will be running out Team Training on Wednesday nights only! See you then!

Coach Richard – Personal Training

We are adding Coach Richard to one of the faces you will be seeing around the gym. He has joined us from CrossFit Lazarus (fun fact he also introduced Jason and by extension all of us to CrossFit) and will be offering one on one training for those interested.
