Lindsey gettin’ after it.

This week has been a whirlwind of activity and, as a result, I’m surprised that it is already Friday. I’m not complaining that it’s Friday, just surprised that the week went as quickly as it did. As a result, in a small attempt to play catch up, I want to give you a review of the week as well as an update on some upcoming events.

Monday. On Monday we celebrated Memorial Day, and as CrossFitters, we paid our respect to all those who serve by participating in the Hero WOD, “Daniel”. Thanks again to all of our members who came out to complete the workout, and a huge “thank you” to all of those who serve.

Tuesday. After a difficult workout on Monday, we took Tuesday to tackle some bodyweight movements in the regular WOD. It was also business as usual as the Olympic Weightlifting class met for some skills and drills. However, while things were quiet at the gym, the Facebook and Twitter feeds alike were trending with the controversial blog post, “Why I Don’t Do CrossFit” by Erin Simmons (to read CrossFit HQ’s response click here: “‘Why I Don’t Do CrossFit’ Response” by Russell Berger) as well as CrossFit Headquarter’s new team competition development beginning this fall: “New Team Competition Series This Fall”.

Wednesday. After all of the tizzy in the media yesterday about CrossFit, it was nice to focus on our community. Jason, Ben, and Nate all celebrated their birthdays, and the AMRAPPERs responded with a challenging workout.  We had a huge turnout beginning with 23 people at “The Dawn Patrol” and then large classes continuing throughout the day to celebrate with the boys. Happy Birthday again, guys!

Thursday. Nothing too out of the ordinary happened on Thursday, but as the week settled into its downward way towards the weekend it reminded me of all of the upcoming events, including:

The Granite Games: Registration for the Granite Games ends on Wednesday, June 4th, when the first workout is announced. For more information about the Granite Games or to join the AMRAP Team, visit their website: The 2014 Granite Games.

CrossFit AMRAP Kids: The schedule for the CrossFit AMRAP Kids’ camp has been set for its first summer session. This summer we will be offering a weekly class for kids ages 4-6 on Tuesday as well as a class on Thursday morning for children ages 7-12. For more information about CrossFit AMRAP Kids’ summer sessions, please visit our Kids’ page. To reserve your child’s spot, please contact Brittany at brittany@crossfitamrap.com or (815) 685-7717.

CrossFit AMRAP’s 4-Year Anniversary Party: We hope that you can join us on Saturday, June 21st, to celebrate CrossFit AMRAP’s 4-year anniversary at Duke’s Alehouse in downtown Crystal Lake. Please remember to RSVP to Brittany by June 5th. Cost is $10/person.

AMRAP June Newsletter: Keep your eye on your inbox for our next month’s newsletter. It has important information about our the Granite Games, CrossFit AMRAP Kids, babysitting hours/fees for the summer months, Olympic Weightlifting, and much more!

Friday-Sunday. There is nothing particularly exciting going on today or this weekend at the gym. But if you want to get your sweat on before settling into any of your activities this weekend, stop in for a WOD, get some lifting in, and share a few laughs. Have a great Friday everyone and a great weekend!
