On Dec. 25, 2014, the National IHR Focal Point of Jordan notified the World Health Organization (WHO) of one additional case of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection.

Details of the case are as follows: A 70-year-old, non-national male from Quriat city, Saudi Arabia developed symptoms on Dec. 20. He was admitted to a hospital in Quriat city on Dec. 21. The patient discharged himself from the hospital against medical advice and travelled to Jordan where he was admitted to a private hospital on Dec. 22. The patient was transferred back on Dec. 26 to Saudi Arabia where he is presently admitted to a hospital in Quriat city. He has comorbidities and has a history of raw camel milk consumption. The patient has no history of exposure to other known risk factors in the 14 days prior to the onset of symptoms. Currently, he is critically ill and on mechanical ventilation.

Contact tracing of household contacts and healthcare contacts is ongoing for this case.

The National IHR Focal Point for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia also notified WHO of the death of three previously reported MERS-CoV case.
