PCB clears Mohammad Irfan and two others

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) management is in a real fix after allegations of fixing emerged in the tournament just a day after the second season kicked off.

While the PCB has provisionally suspended Pakistan cricketers Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif from the PSL three other national cricketers Mohammad Irfan, Shazaib Hassan and Zulfiqar Babar have also been questioned by the Anti-Corruption Unit today (February 11).

Irfan is a part of the defending champions Islamabad United’s squad. Hassan is with the Karachi Kings while Babar was signed by the Quetta Gladiators.

Yusuf Pathan set become the first Indian player to play a foreign T20 league

Indian all-rounder Yusuf Pathan is all set to join the Kowloon Cantons in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz this year.

. With that, he will become the first Indian male cricketer to feature in a foreign Twenty20 tournament. The previous edition of the Blitz was a fairly successful one. The T20 league had seen the international faces like Ryan Campbell and Michael Clarke feature in the 2016 edition.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave Yusuf the clearance to participate in the tournament this year.

Bangladesh have a long way to go in this Test match: Shakib-al-Hasan

After a disastrous first two days for Bangladesh in the only Test against India, they had something to cheer for on the 3rd day as the visitors reached 322/6 in pursuit of India’s gigantic 687.

Riding on half-centuries from former captain Shakib-al-Hasan, current captain Mushfiqur Rahim and teenager Mehedi Hasan Bangladesh went past the 300 mark.

Despite their impressive showing with the bat on Day 3, Bangladesh has a long way to go and have to bat out of their skins to harbour any hopes of saving the Test match.

Sam Harper fine after being hit by the bat on his helmet

20-year-old wicketkeeper Sam Harper from Australia suffered a nasty injury in a Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and South Australia at the Adelaide Oval.

Harmer was standing up at the stumps with left-arm spinner Jon Holland bowling at Jake Lehmann. Holland dropped one pretty short and Lehmann sensing the opportunity wanted to hit it on the on-side but probably went a bit too hard and hit the helmet of the keeper in the follow through of his shot.

Harper fell down on the ground and wasn’t able to get back on his feet. He was soon attended by medical staff and later taken off the field to the hospital.

Shikhar Dhawan wants to do well in domestic cricket to be back in the Indian team for Champions Trophy

Shikhar Dhawan settled himself in the Indian limited-overs team with his exceptional performance in the Champions Trophy 2013. Team India won the trophy in England – he was the leading run-scorer and Player of the tournament.

Usman Khawaja upbeat to make his mark in India

Australian top-order batsman Usman Khawaja who wasted his opportunity to play in India during their previous tour in 2013 due to unforeseen situations said that he has learned from his previous mistakes and is determined to make a mark in the upcoming 4 match series in India.

The southpaw was there in the squad that toured India in 2013 but was subsequently sent back to Australia alongside Shane Watson, Mitchell Johnson and James Pattinson due to the homework saga involving the then Australian coach Mickey Arthur.

“It was a tough tour (India 2013), even from the sideline, just because we were losing games and things were not going our way,” Khawaja was quoted as saying by Fairfax Media in a report published in the ‘Sydney morning Herald.’

Afghanistan CEO says playing India at Eden Gardens will be their dream debut in Tests

England U19 team’s room turns into a classroom on non-match days

England U19 team is touring India and have already played completed to One-Day series. On non-match days the England youngsters who represent the national juniors team are busy completing homework. Seven junior members of the squad are appearing for their A-levels which is the 12th grade here in India.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have a thing called “Dual Aspiration” (DA) where a player is allowed to focus on their academics or any other field apart from cricket. Hence, on every off day at 9.30 AM, England team room turns into a classroom which is headed by the team manager, Mo Bobat who fortunately happens to be an ex-teacher.

Imran Tahir takes the top spot in ODI Bowlers Rankings

South Africa’s duo of Imran Tahir and Faf du Plessis have achieved personal milestones in the ICC ODI Player Rankings following stellar performances in the just concluded five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Wrist-spinner Imran Tahir has surged to the top of the ICC Player Rankings for ODI Bowlers after claiming 10 wickets in the series, while du Plessis has broken into the top five for the first time in his career after scoring 410 runs with two centuries and one half-century.

Tahir is already the number-one ranked bowler in the ICC Player Rankings for T20I Bowlers and had started the ODI series in third place with 712 points.

South Africa reclaims No. 1 ODI ranking after more than two years

South Africa has returned to the top of the ICC ODI Team Rankings after sweeping aside Sri Lanka 5-0 at Centurion on Friday. South Africa had entered the series against Sri Lanka, trailing number-one ranked Australia by four points.

However, Australia’s 0-2 defeat against New Zealand and South Africa’s own 5-0 win over Sri Lanka means the Proteas have now moved ahead of the world champions.

A delighted South Africa captain AB de Villiers said: “We are excited to be back at the top of the ICC ODI Team Rankings. We have had some trials since the World Cup two years ago but have worked hard to rebuild and to gain some form and consistency in this format.

Incumbent Under-19 India coach Rahul Dravid has stated that most players will get the opportunity in the upcoming matches to come against England.

They have all done well in the domestic competition, which is something that selectors wanted to reward and this was probably the only opportunity that we could give to them. I am glad that we will have a new bunch of boys in Nagpur that they get a chance to represent India and hopefully learn a few things. And at the end of series, you can say that you have given 40-41 U-19 kids an opportunity at this level and what more can you ask for?”

South Africa board to limit player’s time in the IPL

With Cricket South Africa and their revolutionary domestic T20 League, the board headed by Haroon Lorgat has stated that the players need to make their way back to the country for international duty.

A recent report from a few credible sources implies that the players have been asked to return on the eighth of May. The sources also reveal that this information has been made public to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as well.

India beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to enter the final of the Blind T20 World Cup

India beat Sri Lanka in style to reach the finals of the Blind T20 World Cup 2017. The men in blue beat the Lankans by 10 wickets in the semi-final match.

Indian opener, J Prakash scored an unbeaten century to take India home. After winning the toss, India decided to bowl first. Sri Lanka was restricted to a 174 as none of the batsmen could get going.

Suranga Sampath top scored with a quick fire 49 off 37 deliveries while Chandana Deshapriya also managed a 42 off 35 deliveries

Reports suggest that Mohammad Irfan suspended for match-fixing

With the reports of match-fixing allegations doing the rounds in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), 33-year-old pacer Mohammad Irfan is the latest name in the hat along with his Pakistan teammates Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif.

The PCB Anti-Corruption Unit swung into action after they learnt about a possibility of an international syndicate working its way to corrupt the PSL.

A day after Sharjeel and Khalid were provisionally suspended reports from various sources suggest that Irfan’s phone has been seized by the PCB’s anti-corruption unit while Najam Sethi, the PSL chief will be taking a longer and harder look into this matter.

Sourav Ganguly revisits Kohli’s performance on 2014 Australia tour

While the Indian cricket team juggernaut is certainly on a roll, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has revisited India’s tour of Australia in the 2014 series, something that was indeed one that molded Kohli as the player that he is today.

“I think the tour of Australia in 2014 completely changed Virat Kohli the batsman. Four back-to-back hundreds in that series, I think that was above all. His performance in that series was by far the best I’ve seen in a long long time. And I don’t know whether Kohli himself can match that again,” Ganguly to India Today in an exclusive interview.
