The world's No. 1 fast bowler Dale Steyn repeated his worst spell in Indian Premier League when Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday.
In what turned out to be a battle between two world-class South African cricketers, Sunday's Indian Premier League match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad is one match Dale Steyn will like to forget in a hurry. Smacked relentlessly by his ODI skipper and RCB star batsman AB De Villiers, Steyn, Hyderabad's lead bowler, repeated one of his worst spells in T20 cricket.
Steyn conceded 23 (excluding a leg-bye) in his last over that enabled RCB clinch a thrilling four-wicket win at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Steyn was smashed for three sixes and a four. This is the most conceded by him in an over in IPL.
Sunday was the second time when Steyn conceded 23 runs in an over in IPL. He had conceded 23 (including two sixes and two fours) to De Villiers while playing for Deccan Chargers versus RCB at Chinnaswamy on May 6, 2012.
Man of the match De Villiers was in murderous mood on Sunday. His 41-ball 89 not out was one of the best innings of IPL 2014. Five of his eight sixes were off Steyn. No batsman has treated Steyn like this before. Dhoni had scored four sixes off Steyn once. RCB skipper Virat Kohli, himself in poor form, said De Villiers was the "best batsman in the world." That's saying a lot.
