Kohli: ‘Little worried and annoyed (chuckles) as well (when enquired about running out of partners). There was communication but lack of application. Axar did what I wanted him to do. He kept his compusre and listened to me. The pitch was two-paced. The ball was not quite coming on. When the ball got old, it was not easy, especially in the second innings. I kept running out of partners. The guys have to learn from it. Absolutely, it has to start from the top. It has to come from me first. If you want someone else to do something, you have to do it yousrself. This has to be the over (in reference to attacking Mendis). I tried the helicoper shot and it came off. Playing in MS’ home town, it was perfect finish for us. We have a young side, exciting squad and you saw the character and composure of quite a few guys in this series. Rohit’s knock in the last game was legendary and it won’t be bettered soon. It has been a great series overall for us. All in all, it is very satisfying. 48 hours sounds much better than 2 days. I would like to thank the Sri Lankan side for putting their hands up and participating in this series.’

Virat Kohli is the Man of the Series.

Mathews: ‘Not really. Still we lost. It would have been awesome to get a win. We did not play good cricket again. India played well. It was a tough wicket. I had to hang in there. Thirimanne batted well. I just had a go at the end and it worked. We batted pretty well, 287 was a huge score on this wicket. Once again Kohli batted well, all the best to them for Australia. We have to flush this out of our system and try to win against England. We have 14 ODIs ahead of the World Cup.’

Mathews is the Man of the Match.
