The STASH Puppies by Oklahoma, The Way I See It
Our Bogie turns one today! Can’t believe it’s been a year since the STASH Puppies were born! He’s the one in the middle with the purple pom-poms around his neck!
It was such a sweet journey to follow, one of big hearts and community. Rebecca from STASH rescuing Cita from the pound so that she had a fighting chance for both herself and her puppies. The community that rallied around Rebecca to help take care of Cita, go through birth with her, and then take care of all 11 of those precious babies until they all could be adopted. All of them were, including Cita! It was a remarkable experience to follow and to have a bit part in.

Bringing Bogie into our lives was something that just felt right. I started following the story when Rebecca brought Cita home, it wasn’t long after our beloved Thor had passed away before Christmas. His loss began making us wonder about bringing in a new dog to our pack.

I liked the idea of a new member of our pack because it would give us a chance to have a dog together. I had my two, he had his three – but this would be ours together. I know it sounds weird, they aren’t human children but they are in a way our kids – we love them as much!
A couple of months after Bogie came home, Tony went through one of the worst things a dog owner/lover goes through, he lost his Baby. He’d had her since she was a puppy and we noticed a decline in her coming, but the day she couldn’t walk anymore it all got a little too real. Days later, Tony made the most heartbreaking choice to let her go. I’ll never forget that day, the pain he went through, and the days and months after of healing from the loss of her. Having Bogie did help with because he needed full time attention and you couldn’t not smile when he came up happy to see you.
This is Baby around Thanksgiving of 2013.. she was still doing well and looked beautiful in front of the tree!

Bogie as a puppy was adorable, sweet, curious, and playful – he still is just a bit bigger! There were late nights, long days of cleaning up after him, getting upset when he destroyed something, but a lot of laughter and kisses.

This dog is a wonder dog with a heart of gold and the determination to protect his mama (me) at all costs. We have loved every minute of having him and while he is still a big puppy (he’s around 85 pounds of muscle and slobber) who likes to sit on my lap (and Tony’s)! I can’t imagine what life would be like without this big lover.

He’s recently become a great big brother to our recent foster-failure, Frankie. Watching them play together is such a delight. Bogie is so gentle, so patient, and just the best thing we could have hoped for in bringing this little ditch puppy home.

Bogie still has a lot to learn – he doesn’t know his own strength, is hard to walk now but we’re working on it, and because of his deep, deep bark he sounds ferocious to people. Just look at that smile though! If you are a dog lover or just have a gentle heart, you’d know from the look that he’s not a monster. He’s a big lover!

Overcoming some stereotypes is one of our biggest public challenges. I get really mad when people freak out upon seeing him. He’s just a curious pup who wants to make friends. Be gentle to big dogs and their owners. Don’t judge us before you know us, please!
