Weddings are an important milestone in any couple’s life.

The day you say ‘I do’ and commit to spending the rest of your life with your other half is one that will be remembered for the rest of your life together. With that being said, the time leading up to your big day can be extremely stressful. Below are our 10 commandments of a drama-free wedding.

01. Make important decisions together.

Even though most people tend to think that the bride is the most important person during the big day, it’s so important that you and your partner agree on the majority of the wedding plans. Will you be hiring a marquee for your wedding, what food will you be providing? Sharing these decisions with your partner and finding out what both of you envisage will really help to keep stress levels at a minimum.

02. Decide who you would like in your wedding party.

Not only will your close friends and relatives make the big day special, they could also help you through the planning process. Many could have experienced the process before and therefore provide valuable advice and information.

03. Finalise the important details first.

Aspects such as the date, venue, who will be attending and the all important wedding dress should be decided first. Once you know you have the primary details organised it will make choosing the finer details so much easier.

04. Set a budget and stick with it.

It’s no secret that weddings can be expensive.

That’s why it’s so important to decide on your budget before you begin planning. Keeping your budget in mind throughout the planning process will help you to make key decisions that work within your price range.

05. Make a detailed timeline.

Create a realistic timeline that will help you monitor your progress. This timeless will allow you to keep on track and avoid panic as the big day draws closer.

06. Make use of event tools and online resources.

Don’t be afraid to use any tools that make the planning process easier to manage.
Mobile apps or physical binder folders are an excellent way of keeping all your notes, ideas and plans in one place. Sites such as Pinterest are also great for keeping your wedding inspiration accessible and organised.

07. Do your research.

As well as online research, it’s a good idea to get out there and speak to people.

This way you’re able to describe what it is that you have in mind for the big day. Make phone calls, send emails and arrange meetings. This can take time but it will be worth it and could find you the best deal possible.

Also, try to avoid impulse decisions.

The first deal offered may not be the best deal for your big day or in fact your budget. Taking the time to fully research all options available to you could open new doors and help you plan the perfect wedding that suits you and your partner’s personal style.

08. Book your honeymoon as soon as possible.

Not only will booking in advance get you a better deal, but having the perfect honeymoon organised will make planning the rest of big day so much easier. The honeymoon can be expensive, taking up a large portion of the budget. Having this booked and paid early on in the planning process can make it easier to work within your budget.

09. Take some time out for you.

Planning your wedding is important and can take up the majority of your time (if you allow it to). It’s essential that you and your partner take some time out to relax and be excited for the day itself. If you’re stressed throughout the months or weeks leading up to your wedding chances are you will feel stress during the wedding.

10. Anticipate challenges.

Try to keep in mind that there will be aspects of the planning process that will not go as smoothly as you would like. They not to let challenges take their toll on you and instead embrace them. Unexpected hiccups could take your wedding to a new direction and that may not be a negative thing.

Even the most intimate affair takes months of planning. But sticking to the above 10 commandments should ensure you keep calm over this exciting period and that you can enjoy the day just as much as your guests will.
