Leave it to Victoria Beckham to highlight the effect of minimalist makeup. Despite her signature smoky-verging-on-goth eye-shadow application, most of Vic’s makeup looks are simple, classic and forever stylish.

Introducing Victoria Beckham Estée Lauder – a limited edition makeup collection that sees nude lips juxtaposed with foil shine around the eyes and subtle wet finishes that the girl herself insists would look good smudged a little… So 1999, yes, but I suppose the goth chic look was biggest when Beckham first came to prominence with the Spice Girls. Speaking of which, the fact that ‘Posh’ Spice is encouraging makeup wearers to dabble in imperfect looks makes me think kudos to her – for throwing aside her traditionalist ethos for a moment and getting her cool on.

Highlights of the Victoria Beckham Estée Lauder collection include the basic but obligatory Morning Aura Illuminating Crème, serving as part moisturiser, part brightening primer, and containing fascinatingly tiny ‘pearls’ to add brightness where needed to a girl’s face.

For perfect contouring – which we know Vic just loves to see on her own face – there is a Modern Mercury Highlighter which, when instantly applied to cheeks lends the wearer a cheekbones for days.

Eye makeup appears to be the biggest contingency of the collection, including eyeshadows in metal hues, and eye ink in strong bold gold or metallic ‘blackened’ green. Also to bring out a girl’s peepers are innovative eye foils that deliver a very rock’n’roll vinyl-like shine – again available in blonde and black tints.

As for lipsticks, minimalism is key here, too, with ‘Brazilian Nude’ sure to be the popular seller thanks to it matching just about every makeup palette, and ‘Chilean Sunset’ which – as a standout from the collection – flirts with bold orange and red.All in all, this is an impressive range of makeup from a woman who knows just how far to bend a classic aesthetic so as to keep gals looking contemporary and chic.

According to Victoria, the collection was inspired by her favourite cities including London, Paris, New York and L.A. – and I’m pretty sure it will be a hit far and wide, too.  Lisa Andrews
