One item that will surely find its way into many homes this holiday season is Disney’s “The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition.”   This timeless classic has been elegantly re-mastered and is being offered for the very first time in Blu-Ray Hi-Def. For those of you who have seen the original release will also be enthralled with this special release. It surely will help you to rediscover “The Magic of Disney.”  We were so excited to get a copy for review!

The Little Mermaid highlights the voice talents of many well-known actors and actresses, which I am sure that many of you have watched or heard about at least once in your lifetime. For those of you who have not had the chance to view this wonderful presentation, it is based on the life of a free-spirited mermaid named Ariel. Ariel sets off on an adventure to find “herself,” along with two of her best friends, Flounder, a colorful fish, and Sebastian, a Caribbean crab who loves to warble out reggae tunes.

Courage, determination, love, disappointment, agony, magic, sorcery, happiness, and forgiveness are just some of the emotions that you and your family will experience as you take in this action-packed adventure that is so “Disney.”
Disney’s, “The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition” features the amazing voice talents of these notable actors and actresses. Jodi Benson voices the character Ariel. Other voice projects of Jodi’s include Toy Story 2 and 3. Samuel E. Wright of The Lion King Broadway Play voices the character, Sebastian. The voice of Flounder is created by the talented Jason Marin, who starred in Back to the Future. Pat Carroll of Laverne and Shirley fame lends her talent to the voice of Ursula, the Sea Witch.

The incredibly talented Buddy Hackett who starred in “The Music Man,” lends his voice talent in this DVD release as Scuttle. Other voice characters include Christopher Daniel Barnes from The Brady Bunch Movie as Eric, the Prince, Kenneth Mars from Young Frankenstein as Triton, and Rene Auberjonois from The Patriot, as Chief Louis. Edie McClurg from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off as Carlotta the Maid, Ben Wright from The Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians as Flotsam and Jetsam, and Will Ryan from The Land Before Time as Harold the Seahorse, round off the voice characters in this spectacular Disney DVD.

B loved seeing this movie for the first time, and I loved being able to see it with him! It is one of my all time favorite Disney movies because of the characters, the music, and the storyline.  You cannot help but sing along to the beautiful music.   B’s favorite character was Sebastian.  He thought he was funny and now wants his own little crab.  I wonder if he thinks it will start singing to him?

“The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition” was directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, both of these men played a part in the production of “Aladdin.” It was produced by John Musker (Aladdin), Howard Ashman (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast), and Maureen Donley (Anastasia). The writers include John Musker (Aladdin), Ron Clements (Aladdin), and Irene Mecchi from (Brave, The Lion King).

Many bonus features are included in this newest release of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition”. Some of these features include- The Real Little Mermaid: Live Action Reference Model, Part of Her World: Jodi Benson’s Voyage To New Fantasyland, Howard’s Lecture, Disney Intermission, Disney Animation, Deleted Character, Classic DVD Bonus Features, and All-New Music Videos.

Disney’s “The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition” runs for approximately 83 minutes.
