HALIFAX: A majority of Nova Scotia residents support a recent decision by the Utilities and Review Board (UARB) to build the Maritime Link, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. When residents were asked if they support or oppose the recent decision of the UARB, which approved a plan for Emera to build the Maritime Link, bringing hydro electricity from Muskrat Falls in Newfoundland and Labrador to Nova Scotia, two-thirds (67%) of residents support this decision. Meanwhile, one in six (16%) oppose, while three percent are not familiar with the Maritime Link, and another 14 percent do not know or do not offer an opinion.
“Consistent with similar findings in Newfoundland and Labrador, a clear majority of Nova Scotians support the recent decision by the UARB to build the Maritime Link,” according to Don Mills, Chairman and CEO of Corporate Research Associates. “This decision comes with provisions including whether Nalcor Energy can provide guaranteed access to market-price energy.”
Support for the Maritime Link Project is slightly elevated in Cape Breton where more residents support the recent UARB decision compared to those in HRM and mainland NS.
These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent, quarterly survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a telephone sample of 400 adult Nova Scotians, conducted from August 7 to August 26, 2013, with overall results accurate to within ± 4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
