When: November 12th, Game Time TBD

Where: Boone Pickens Stadium

Watch/Listen: Cowboy Radio Network, (TV Broadcast TBD)

In week ten of the season, The Cowboys welcome (rival) Texas Tech to Stillwater. This is the 44th meeting between the two schools with OSU trailing in the series 21-19 (3 ties), however the Cowboys have won seven straight and 10 of the last 13. Here’s what you need to know about this season’s matchup.

Last Year:

The Red Raiders went 7-6 (4-5 in conference), ending the season with a blowout 56-27 loss to LSU in The Texas Bowl. Tech’s best game might have been the 55-52 loss to TCU, where they lost on a tipped pass with less than 30 seconds left. They were blown out by Baylor and OU and blew a 17-point lead to OSU.

Texas Tech enter their fourth season with Kliff Kingsbury at the helm, who sports a 19-19 record as a head coach.

Last Meeting:

OSU found themselves in a position they were in multiple times, trailing. Texas Tech took a 31-14 lead early in the second quarter and led 38-28 at halftime. The Red Raiders OWNED the first half. The second half was a different story. OSU outscored TTU 42-14 in the third and fourth quarters.

Who To Watch For:

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Generally picked as one of the top 2 quarterbacks in the league (and a wildcard Heisman pick) returns after a season where he threw for 4,653 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also threw 15 interceptions. Still if Mahomes improves like most juniors you can expect him to put up similar, if not better offensive numbers.

Tech has a habit of having quality receivers and this year shouldn’t be any different. Top Juco wide-receiver transfer Derrick Willies arrives from Trinity Valley Community College where he racked up 1,155 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2015.

I’d mention a defensive player, but it’s Texas Tech.

What We Will Learn From Our Matchup

If OSU is in a position to take the Big 12 title at this point in the season, their mindset toward that goal will be tested here. Late in the season is when we’ve had a lot out losses recently. Playing Tech this late will test the defense and our health. I expect another high scoring affair. What I don’t expect is for OSU’s winning streak over the Red Raiders to end.

Prediction: OSU 55 – TTU 45
