de la Renta has been instrumental in Galliano’s fashion comeback, following his dismissal from Christian Dior for making anti-Semitic comments in 2011.
Earlier this year Galliano helped de la Renta prepare for his Fall/Winter 13 New York Fashion Week show at his atelier and there have since been rumours the pair are planning to team up again.
de la Renta has hinted the speculation could have some truth to it.
“The designer said Tuesday they e-mail each other weekly, and he noted that Galliano is accustomed to a very different job. And they will keep talking,” reports WWD.
In August de la Renta admitted he would love to have Galliano working with him again in the future. The designer and his fashion house were said to be hoping to find a way for Galliano to join them full time, although exactly what his role would be was proving difficult to ascertain.
It seems de la Renta is still hoping to work something out.
“I love John. He is a great talent,” he said.
Following his work for the New York show, Galliano has slowly started re-entering the fashion world. He has apparently been mentoring some design students in Paris and is working on the costumes for stage show The Importance of Being Earnest.
The designer also discussed his 2011 meltdown with Vanity Fair magazine and US TV star Charlie Ross, opening up about his struggle with addiction and when he realised he needed help.
Galliano was caught on camera declaring his love for Hitler and was physically ill when he was shown the footage.
“My assistant told me about the video. When I saw it, I threw up. The feeling was like I was about to take a step out onto the street and a bus or truck whooshed past me and the blood was drained from my legs. I was paralysed from the fear,” he recalled to Vanity Fair.
“It’s the worst thing I have said in my life, but I didn’t mean it… I have been trying to find out why that anger was directed at this race. I now realise I was so f**king angry and so discontent with myself that I just said the most spiteful thing I could.”
