Top 5 Reasons To visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

While attending the Disneynature Monkey Kingdom Movie event in Orlando, I was given the opportunity to meet and interview Greg Peccie, Animal Operations Manager at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. All of these years living here in the Orlando area, and I had never been to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. And it has been open since 2001! Where have I been?? I have seriously been missing out. This is practically in my backyard and after taking a closer look, I am already planning a trip with the kids.

Mr. Greg Peccie was very informative and educated about the animals, hotel, restaurant, and more. You could tell that he absolutely loved his job and this lodge. There were multiple things I learned about this fun resort, and I’m going to share the top 5 reasons why I’m coming back!

THE ANIMALS

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge sits on 46 acres. It houses over 250 animals. It’s like a resort inside of a zoo…not a zoo inside of a resort! Imagine waking up and enjoying a cup coffee on your porch while watching the zebra eat their breakfast. AMAZING. Mr. Greg Peccie answered all of our questions about these great animals.

RESORT ACTIVITIES

Check out the activity calendar. Every Disney resort offers a wide variety of activities and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is no different. Lots of activities. And most of them are free! It’s like it’s own vacation. You could enjoy a few days at the lodge without stepping foot into the parks and have plenty to do for the kids and adults alike.

THE FOOD

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge serves award-winning, African-inspired specialties and classic American favorites for breakfast, lunch and dinner, amid a lush, wildlife preserve.

Dining Options:

Fine/Signature Dining

Unique/Themed Dining

Quick-Service

In-Room Dining

Animal Kingdom Lodge offers a unique dining option. Dine with Animal Specialists at the Sanaa Restaurant. This includes animal keepers, managers, and more. (recommended for children 8 and up)

THE CAST MEMBERS

You will find cast members that work at the resort are very knowledgeable. Keep an eye out for animal specialists and animal keepers. They are ready and willing to answer any questions you have about the animals, their environment, conservation, and more. Head out to view the savannah and you will see one or two animal specialists on the boardwalk to help you learn all about what you are seeing. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge’s daytime animal team employs 25 animal keepers, 4 managers, AND Greg Peccie, the general manager. There is also a night team works from 6 pm to 5 am. THere are 10 night keepers + 2 managers.

Even if you’re not staying at the resort as a guest, you can enjoy the scenery and animals. You don’t need to have a room at the resort to come and have some fun. Join in the resort activities, view animals, ask questions, or just relax and take in the scenery, all at no cost!
