As 2016 comes to an end, I sit and reflect on all of our accomplishments this past year. I like to take the last week of the year, after Christmas, to reflect on all of the positive things that have happened and all of the goals we accomplished as a family. Not just my personal goals, but our financial goals, relationship goals as husband and wife, family goals, and the goals we have made with our children.
EDUCATIONAL MILESTONES AND GOALS
Our oldest two children are teenagers. They are thriving in school and getting closer and closer to college. They both had an amazing 2016 with grades, awards, and participating in school activities. We have made it a goal to focus even more on grades and studying this year with all four of our children with an emphasis on keeping the older two at a 4.0 or higher GPA. It CAN be done!
This year my oldest, who will be 16 in January, took his second PSAT. He had great results. In 2016, we looked further into scholarship requirements. Our plan is to make this an even higher priority in 2017. He is a sophomore in high school…halfway through the year already. Time does fly!
My oldest daughter turned 14 this month and chose what high school she will be attending next year. We also spent time looking further into scholarships for her as well. She has huge goals to go to school in NYC at the Juilliard School.
While we hope and plan on all four of our intelligent, hard working children to excel and qualify for scholarships, we also know that relying on scholarships alone to cover all of their college costs is not practical. As we budget for 2017, we are making education a high priority. We are adding more to our college savings plans this year than ever before. It’s going to be a big year for us!
